Loretto, Pa.- Another big weekend for the Saint Francis men's soccer team (8-3-3, 4-0-2 NEC) as it welcomes in St. Francis Brooklyn (6-8, 3-2 NEC) for senior day and a chance to close out its 2018 regular season home schedule perfect. The match will begin at 2 p.m., on Saturday.
Â
Scouting the Terriers
Â
Saint Francis Brooklyn entered the 2018 campaign as the unanimous favorite to win the NEC again in 2018 after winning its second consecutive conference championship and the fourth in the last five seasons in 2017. The Terriers currently sit at 6-8 overall and 3-2 in NEC conference play and are coming off of a 2-0 win over Fairleigh Dickinson last weekend.Â
Â
Despite a below .500 overall record, the Terriers are still a big threat when it comes to the NEC title race. Two of their three conference victories have come late in the second halves.  Senior forward and French International Ali Tounkara is a big contributor to those late goals as three of his five goals have come during conference play. He has accumulated 10 points and is third in the conference in game-winning goals and total goals.
Â
Series History
Â
The Terriers hold a 13-18 mark all-time against the Red Flash. SFBK has won the last five showdowns, including a 1-0 victory at Saint Francis Brooklyn last season. The Red Flash last win over St. Francis Brooklyn came back in 2014, when SFU took a 1-0 win on its home turf.
Â
Super Hero Canineu
Â
Junior midfielder
Lucas Canineu (Corbin, Ky/Corbin) connected on what will go down as one of the best goals and top plays of the year on Sunday against LIU Brooklyn. Despite the lack of minutes played this season as he's battled injury, Canineu has contributed to SFU's 4-0-2 NEC record. With two seconds remaining in regulation, Canineu played a deflected pass perfect as he volleyed it past LIU Brooklyn's goalie to give Saint Francis a 1-0 win and chance to possibly host the Northeast Conference Tournament in November.
Â
Chasing Home Field
Â
As the season winds down, the 2018 Saint Francis men's soccer team continues to show that it's one of the top teams in the Northeast Conference. After Sunday's win, the Red Flash currently sit second in the conference, just one point behind LIU Brooklyn. If everything plays in the favor of the Red Flash, it could host the 2018 NEC Tournament which will be played on
Nov. 9-11.
Â
Special Senior Class
Â
The Red Flash will honor seniors
Mario Mastrangelo (Venetia, Pa/Peters Township),
Nicco Mastrangelo (Venetia, Pa/Peters Township), and
Eric Ganime (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil/Colegio Icaro) on Saturday. The class has helped continue the winning tradition from the past years as well as win 10 games in each of its seasons at SFU. The Mastrangelo brothers have appeared in two NEC finals matches as Mario earned all-conference honors in two of his three seasons as a Red Flash. He is third all-time in career goals with 35. Ganime transferred into Saint Francis for his junior and senior year helping the Red Flash to 10 shutouts while recording his first goal in a Saint Francis uniform. The Senior Day ceremony will be streamed on NEC Front Row at 1:45 p.m.
