Red Flash ready for final home weekend

Friday: Live Stats | Live Video

Loretto, Pa. – The Saint Francis women's soccer team  (6-7-3, 4-1-1 NEC) concludes conference play this weekend with home matches vs. CCSU (13-1-2, 7-0 NEC) on Friday and Wagner (3-13, 1-6 NEC) on Sunday.

Scouting Central Connecticut State

The Blue Devils have already clinched the regular-season title with seven consecutive wins to open league play. The Red Flash will look to break up its perfect season on Friday in the Blue Devils last conference game. In fact, the Blue Devils have lost just one game all season and enter Friday 13-1-2 overall. Central Connecticut's offense is a handful. The Blue Devils lead the NEC in shots per game (17.1) and goals per game (1.94) and have been held scoreless just once all season. Defensively, CCSU has conceded just eight goals for the best goals against average in the league (.50 goals per game) and has recorded a league-high 10 clean sheets in 16 contests. Senior Charlotte Maurer ranks second in the conference in goals and points with eight goals and four assists. Senior Danielle Pearse is not far behind with seven goals and three assists for the third most points in conference. Junior Carla Jackson leads the conference with six assists. Senior goalkeeper Ashley Cavanaugh's .50 goals against average is the best mark in the league as is her .875 save percentage.

Series History

The series has been relatively even with CCSU leading 11-10-4. The Blue Devils handed SFU its only defeat during the regular season in 2017 but the Red Flash got revenge with a 2-1 win in the NEC Semifinals.

Scouting Wagner

Wagner, with a 3-13 overall record and 1-6 league record, will miss the postseason. The Seahwaks have been led by Maria Nunez and her five goals. Le'la Allen has added three goals and an assist. Wagner has scored 10 total goals on the season, the worst mark in the conference.

Series History

Saint Francis is 21-3 all-time vs. the Seahawks. Head coach Brenda van Stralen is 13-1 with the only loss coming in 2015.

Clinched

SFU's win over Fairleigh Dickinson on Saturday clinched a playoff spot for the ninth consecutive season. Saint Francis currently is tied-for-second place with Fairleigh Dickinson and Bryant but has a game in hand and owns the tiebreak over both. One win in SFU's final two contests will secure the No. 2 seed in the NEC Tournament.

Captain Clutch

Junior Alyssa McGhee's (Altoona, Pa./Bishop Guilfoyle) overtime game-winning goal at Fairleigh Dickinson was her league-leading fourth game-winning goal of the season and second overtime goal in conference play. She also found the back of the net in SFU's 1-0 overtime win over LIU Brooklyn on Sep. 22. In fact, McGhee has netted the game-winner in four of SFU's six total wins.

Senior Day Celebration

Saint Francis will celebrate the final home game for its four seniors on Sunday before a noon kickoff vs. Wagner. Since the start of the 2015 season, seniors Bri Guy (Turtle Creek, Pa./Woodland Hills), Shannon McGinnis (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus), Shelby Milton (Wollongon, NSW Australia/Westfields Sports) and Sara Suler (Hermitage, Pa./Hickory) have recorded a 20-7-3 conference record and won two NEC Championships.

McGinnis was a Second Team All-Conference selection as a freshman and has twice earned NEC All-Tournament recognition. Suler is a two-time all-league selection and a 2016 All-Tournament Team recipient with 14 career goals and 11 career assists.
