Defense Leads The March Past Colonials

MOON, PA- Bear Fenimore (Austin, Texas/Westwood) threw two touchdown passes for the seventh-straight game and the SFU defense held RMU 200 yards below their average in a 20-7 road win on Saturday at Joe Walton Stadium.
 
BOX SCORE LEADERS
Bear Fenimore (Austin, Texas/Westwood) threw for 222 yards and a pair of touchdown passes to lead the aerial attack for the Red Flash. It is the seventh-straight game with at least two touchdown passes for the grad transfer and also the eighth-straight game where Fenimore accounted for at least two scores.
 
Zach Campbell (Upper Marlboro, Md./Riverdale Baptist) got the surprise start in the backfield and the typical slot receiver responded with seven carries for 29 yards. Jymere Jordan-Toney (Philadelphia, Pa./Franklin) led the ground attack with 65 yards as SFU ran for 105 yards on the day.
 
Fenimore's favorite target was Kam Lewis who hauled in six passes for 108 yards, his 13th career 100-yard game. Cyrus Holder (Uniondale, N.Y./Milford Academy) caught his team-leading 5th touchdown of the season, finishing with 60 yards on five grabs.
 
The Red Flash defense shut down a Colonial attack that was averaging 400 yards and 30 points a night. RMU tallied just 217 total yards on Saturday afternoon.  Da'Jon Lee (Fairfax, Va./Robinson) led the #darkside with seven stops, 3.5 for loss and a pair of sacks. SFU tallied five sacks on the day.
 
For Robert Morris, Jimmy Walker threw for 151 yards and the lone RMU score. Teren Stephens led the ground game with 62 yards as the Colonials were held 106 yards below their season average.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
 
FIRST QUARTER RECAP
  • The Red Flash won the toss and took the ball to start the game
  • Zach Campbell (Upper Marlboro, Md./Riverdale Baptist) got the start at running back and carried three times for 14 yards on the first series
  • SFU kept RMU guess as Nick Rinella (Collegeville, Pa./La Salle College) got a rush for 12 yards
  • The Red Flash got two passes to Cyrus Holder (Uniondale, N.Y./Milford Academy) to move the ball inside the RMU 20
  • A bad exchange on a handoff resulted in a fumble, recovered by RMU, stopping a 17-play drive
  • Da'Jon Lee (Fairfax, Va./Robinson) recorded his sixth sack of the year, stopping the ensuing RMU drive
  • Two teams who average 30 points a game, were scoreless after the first quarter
 
SECOND QUARTER RECAP
  • Holder took over as the second quarter started, the junior grabbed a nine-yard pass to move the Red Flash inside the RMU 35
  • The junior got free on a post route over the middle, hauling in a pass in double coverage for the first score of the game
  • Trevor Thompson (Columbus, Ohio/Canal Winchester) pinned the Colonials deep off a squib kick, pinning them inside their own 10
  • The Red Flash forced a three-and-out and after a bad punt, took over inside the RMU 20
  • SFU couldn't do much with the good field position calling on Eric Bofenkamp (Warren, Ohio/John F. Kennedy) to knock home a 32-yard field goal to make it 10-0 SFU
  • The Red Flash defense forced their first turnover of the game, stopping the longest RMU drive of the half inside the Red Zone, Ben Bruni (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) pounced on a loose ball to give SFU the ball at their own 20
  • The seniors took over on the next SFU drive, Jymere Jordan-Toney (Philadelphia, Pa./Franklin) and Kam Lewis responded with a trio of first downs to move the Red Flash inside the RMU 30
  • Again, the drive stalled and Bofenkamp knocked home his second field goal of the game to extend the lead to 13-0
  • The Red Flash took their 13-0 lead into the locker room
 
THIRD QUARTER RECAP
  • The teams traded punts to start the half with Sean Orsini (Imperial, Pa./West Allegheny) recording a sack to stop RMU's first drive
  • SFU again thwarted a Robert Morris drive, forcing an incomplete pass on fourth down at the SFU 30-yard line to keep it a 13-0 contest
  • Fenimore hit Kam Lewis for the biggest play of the game on the next drive, a 52-yard catch-and-run on third down to move SFU inside the RMU red zone
  • Three plays later, Fenimore hit Terrell Johnson on an 11-yard drag route to move the lead to 20-0, SFU took the 20-0 lead into the fourth
 
FOURTH QUARTER RECAP
  • Da'Jon Lee (Fairfax, Va./Robinson) recorded his second sack of the game, ending RMU's first drive of the quarter
  • The Red Flash offense went into clock-killing mode, with Jordan-Toney getting a bulk of the carries and the Red Flash and Colonials trading a pair of punts
  • The Colonials longest play of the game set up their only score as Matthew Barr caught a Jimmy Walker pass for 34 yards inside the SFU 5
  • Two plays later, Matthew Gonzalez caught a three-yard TD pass to get RMU on the board, for Gonzalez it was his 11th TD catch of the season, a RMU record
  • After the Red Flash could not convert on a fourth down inside RMU territory, the defense forced three incompletions after Lee's second sack of the night
  • Fenimore and the offense kneeled out the clock, giving the Red Flash their first NEC win of the season
 
LOOKING AHEAD
The Red Flash return home for their final two home games of the season. Up first are the Bryant Bulldogs who come into DeGol Field on #MyCause Day. Kickoff from Loretto is set for noon on NEC Front Row.
