Loretto, Pa.- With conference play in full swing, the Saint Francis men's soccer team (5-3-2, 1-0-1 NEC) will look to play its first conference home game as they welcome in Mount St. Mary's (1-6-3, 0-1-1 NEC) on Sunday Oct. 7 at 3 p.m.
Scouting Mount St. Mary's
Mount St. Mary's comes into Loretto with a 1-5-3 overall record and a 0-0-1 NEC record after tying with Fairleigh Dickinson in its conference opener. The Mountaineers lone win of the season came against VMI back on September 22. Picked to finish eighth overall in the 2018 NEC Coaches Preseason Poll, the Mountaineers are led by head coach Bryan Cunningham who looks to build the first-year program into a conference contender.
Mount has scored five goals in ten games so far this season, with all five coming off the foot of a different player. The Mountaineers feature a young forward group led by freshmen Jonathan Godette, Elias Ordonez and Gavin Shirley.
Series History
Mount St. Mary's leads the all-time series 8-12-4 against the Red Flash. The Red Flash and the Mountaineers last matchup was on 11/4/12 which ended in an 0-0 tie.
Home Sweet Home
The Red Flash are eager to get back to the Stoke SoccerPlex this weekend as they finished their eight-game road trip with a 3-1-2 record. Saint Francis is currently 1-0 at home this season and 19-4-1 since 2015. The Red Flash is 9-2 in home conference matches since 2015 and currently holds a three-game conference winning streak on its home turf.
Opening Weekend
Saint Francis opened conference play this past weekend with a 4-2 win over Sacred Heart and a 0-0 tie with Bryant. Three players scored for the Red Flash last weekend. Senior
Mario Mastrangelo (Venetia, Pa/Peters Township) scored two goals, sophomore
Kevin Smolyn (Holland, Pa./Germantown Academy) knocked in one goal, and senior
Tulio Canineu (Corbin, Ky/Corbin) recorded his first goal of the season. After Sunday's game, the Red Flash will travel to Fairleigh Dickinson then return home for three consecutive conference games.

After this past weekend,
Mario Mastrangelo (Venetia, Pa/Peters Township) is seven goals away from tying the Saint Francis all-time goals record of 40. He currently has 33 career goals with six games remaining in the season. Mastrangelo currently sits atop of the conference in three categories, goals (6), assists (6) and points (18) while notching back to back NEC Player of the Week honors.
