Red Flash Outlast Terriers

LORETTO, PA- Nicole Adams (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa East), Madi Tyus (Plano, TX/Bishop Lynch), and Amelia Metzler (Littleton, Colo./Chatfield) recorded their second double doubles of the weekend and the Red Flash outlasted the St. Francis Brooklyn Terriers in four sets on Saturday night inside DeGol Arena. 

The Red Flash won the battle of Saint Francis 27-25, 27-25, 19-25, 27-25 to improve to 2-3 in the Northeast Conference. 

BOX SCORE LEADERS
Alexis Lambert (McKinney, Tx./McKinney-Boyd) had a match-high 17 kills on the evening to go along with 7 digs and two blocks. Nicole Adams (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa East) added 15 kills and 20 digs while Amelia Metzler (Littleton, Colo./Chatfield) had 42 assists and 14 digs. For SFBK, Sidney Colvey was the lone attacker in double figures with 15 kills while Kizzy Rodriguez had a match-high 29 digs to lead the defense. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

FIRST SET RECAP
  • Saint Francis Brooklyn broke open a tightly contested early going by winning five of seven points and forcing an SFU timeout, the Terriers got kills from three different players in the run
  • SFU would get down by as many as five in the set before chipping away at the lead, the Red Flash defense forced a trio of errors as part of a 6-1 run to tie the set at 19
  • An ace from Lambert looked to give SFU the edge but SFBK got a kill and a pair of blocks to retake the lead at 25-24
  • The Red Flash fought off a set point with a Daysha Shamlin (Bear, Del./Tower Hill), Nicole Adams (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa East) block
  • Adams added another block and Lambert put the final touches on the comeback with a kill to give SFU a 27-25 set one victory
SECOND SET RECAP
  • Neither team could get a lead in the second set as the set saw five ties before SFBK would take a 13-11 lead off a Colvey kill
  • SFU would roll off four-straight points to force a pair of SFBK timeouts as Elise Dumouchelle (Ashburn, Va./Broad Run) recorded a pair of aces as part of a 8-2 run
  • The Red Flash lead would grow to 21-16 before the Terriers would chip away, Lauren Montgomery had an impressive service run as the Terriers rallied to tie the set at 22, forcing a SFU timeout
  • SFBK again would have set point at 25-24 off another Colvey kill but Madi Tyus (Plano, TX/Bishop Lynch) would tie the set at 25
  • A Lambert kill gave SFU set point and another Dumouchelle ace capped off set two by an identical 27-25 score
THIRD SET RECAP
  • Set three mirrored the second set as neither team could gain any momentum early
  • The Terriers would finally pull away in the set, winning six-straight points to erase a 12-10 SFU lead, the Terriers had three blocks during the run
  • SFU would cut the lead to four off a Lambert kill but could get no closer as the Terriers got two more blocks to stretch the lead out to seven
  • Saint Francis had one last rally in them, forcing a Terrier timeout after cutting the lead to 23-19, but the Terriers would respond with two points including an ace to take set three at 25-19
FOURTH SET RECAP
  • SFU would get another service run from Dumouchelle early to run off five-straight points and take a 10-6 lead, forcing a Terrier timeout
  • SFBK would chip away at the lead, cutting the lead to 12-11 after forcing a pair of SFU attack errors as part of a 4-0 run
  • The Red Flash again looked to take control of the set, leading 15-12 after a pair of Madi Tyus (Plano, TX/Bishop Lynch) kills
  • Again, SFBK rallied back, tying the set at 15 and eventually taking a 20-17 lead off a Una Stevic kill, forcing a Red Flash timeout
  • SFU again roared back, with a block from Sophia Esposito (Coraopolis, PA/Montour (Gardner-Webb)) and a kill from Lambert to tie the set at 20
  • Neither team would lead by more than one and SFU squandered one match point before Adams final kill of the night put SFU on the doorstep of a win
  • The Red Flash defense would force an attack error as SFU won its third 27-25 set of the night

LOOKING AHEAD
The Red Flash now sit at 2-3 in NEC play as they head back on the road to Sacred Heart and Fairleigh Dickinson next weekend. The Pioneers of SHU are up first with a 6 p.m. first serve scheduled from Fairfield.
