Saint Francis Hosts Niagara on Friday on Toys For Tots Day

Watch | Stats

Loretto, Pa. –
The Saint Francis men's basketball team (2-4) looks to string together back-to-back wins for the first time this season when it hosts Niagara on Friday, Nov. 30, at 7 p.m.

Scouting Niagara

The Purple Eagles (2-3) have had an up-and-down start to the season, collecting wins over St. Bonaventure and Wyoming and suffering losses to Loyola-Chicago, Grambling State and St. Francis Brooklyn. After losing its top two scorers from 2017-18, Niagara has turned to Marvin Prochet to pick up the load. The forward hs delivered at a clip of 20.0 ppg while shooting  48.3% from three-point range (14-29). Big man Dominic Robb is averaging 12.2 ppg and 5.6 rpg in support of Prochet. Saint Francis had trouble containing Robb in last year's meeting as he finished with 17 points and nine boards.

Series History

Saint Francis prevailed a season ago in overtime 93-87 thanks to 26 points from Jamaal King (Salisbury, Md./Bishop O'Connell (Va.)) and 24 from Keith Braxton (Glassboro, N.J./Delsea). Niagara leads the all-time series, 13-12.

Gaskins Gets Going

After missing his first 17 field goals attempts to start the season, junior guard Randall Gaskins Jr. broke out in a big way on Tuesday night with career-highs in points with 23 and assists with six on 10-13 shooting in a win over Bloomsburg. Gaskins has scored in double figures 19 times in his career. Tuesday was his second career game with 20 or more points as his original career-high of 20 came against Robert Morris as a freshman.

Breakthrough Performance

Saint Francis failed to shoot 40% or better in just five of 31 games last season, but was held under the mark in all of its first five games this season. The Red Flash put an emphatic end to the streak by hitting on 61.8% of its field goals, its best percentage since a win over Navy on Nov. 29, 2014. The 113 total points were only six shy of the DeGol Arena scoring record set vs. Chatham.

Sharing the Basketball

The Red Flash recorded a season-high 26 assists on Tuesday, its highest total since recording 30 vs. Chatham on Nov. 19, 2016. King, Gaskins Jr. and sophomore Ramiir Dixon-Conover (Newark, N.J./South Kent) led Saint Francis with six points apiece. Everybody in the lineup benefitted as Saint Francis put six different scorers in double figures and 10 players with five or more points.  SFU's bench recorded a season-high 55 points.

Toys4Tots

Friday's game vs. Niagara will be the men's basketball team's annual Toys4Tots drive. Any fan who brings in a new toy will receive free admission to the game.
