Red Flash hit the road for game at Longwood Saturday

Farmville, VA – The Saint Francis women's basketball team (1-4) hits the road for a matchup with Longwood on Saturday at noon.

Scouting Longwood

Longwood returns three starters off last season's team and six of its top eight scorers. In addition, the Lancers return Khaila Hall, who missed all but two games a season ago after a freshman season in which she was among the Big South scoring leaders with 6.7 points per game. So far this season, Dayna Rouse has led Longwood with 14.0 points per game, while Stephanie Guihon is averaging 11.3 ppg. Mallory Odell paces the team in rebounding with 8.0 boards per contest, while Ciarah Bennett leads the Lancers in assists with 3.0 per clip.

First-year head coach Rebecca Tillett joined Longwood as the program's eighth head coach this past March. She comes to Farmville after four seasons as an assistant coach at the United States Naval Academy where she helped lead the Midshipmen to back-to-back 20-win seasons. Longwood opened the season with an 84-55 defeat at VCU before falling to Wagner, 86-60. The Lancers picked up its first win of the season over Maryland-Eastern Shore on Tuesday, 83-71.

Kovatch only 100 points away from SFU scoring record

Senior guard Jess Kovatch (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg) has been a scoring machine for the Red Flash over her four years with the program. The Phillipsburg, N.J. native has tallied 2,239 points in her SFU career and is 100 points away from breaking Jess Zinobile's all-time scoring record at Saint Francis, which has stood since 2000.

Zezza and Red Flash lead NEC in blocked shots

Led by senior forward Courtney Zezza's (Plum, PA/Plum) NEC best 3.0 blocks per game, the Red Flash rank first in the league in blocked shots with 5.0 bpg. Zezza, who is second all-time at Saint Francis with 226 career blocks, ranks tied for fifth in the country in blocks per game this season.

Stellar three-point shooting

Saint Francis has been putting on clinics from behind the three-point arc this season. The Red Flash lead the NEC and are fifth in the country with 11.4 treys per game. Kovatch spearheads the effort with 3.0 triples a clip, while Swogger has been impressive lately pacing the team over the past two games from behind the arc and averaging 2.6 per contest this season.

Facing the Lancers

This is only the third meeting all-time with the two schools splitting the first two matchups. Saint Francis won the first contest 65-55 on Nov. 13, 2007, while Longwood won the rematch 78-66 on Nov. 19, 2008.
