Waco, Texas – The Saint Francis women's basketball team (0-2) was unable to overcome a talented fourth-ranked Baylor squad as the Red Flash dropped a 116-58 decision to the Lady Bears on Thursday at the Ferrell Center.
Jess Kovatch (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg) paced SFU with 15 points, while
Courtney Zezza (Plum, Pa./Plum) added 14 points and four blocks.
Haigh's Reaction
"It's one of toughest matchups in the country going against a top-ranked team like this," Head Coach
Joe Haigh said. "The thing that I was happy about was we kind of loosened up some in the fourth quarter. Baylor has some of the best players in the world and we are not at that level. I think we played better tonight than we did at Rutgers."
First Quarter Recap
- After falling behind 7-0, the Red Flash strung together a 9-0 run that was capped off with a Zezza three-pointer to put SFU ahead 9-7

- Aunesha Williams (Miami, FL/McEachern High School (Morgan State via Gardner-Webb)) connected on a three-pointer with 2:26 remaining to end a Red Flash scoring drought of nearly six minutes
- Karson Swogger's (Bellwood, PA/Bellwood-Antis) trifecta narrowed the margin to 91-37 at the end of the third period
Fourth Quarter Recap
- Baylor had it largest lead of the game at 105-41
- An AJ Timbers (Philadelphia, PA/Neumann Gorretti (Towson)) triple sparked an 11-0 Red Flash run that was capped off with a Leah Morrow (Columbus, Ohio/Columbus Africentric) jumper to make the score 105-52 with just over five minutes to play
- The Lady Bears rolled the rest of the way to secure the win

- The Red Flash's 17 made three-pointers was the most ever by a Baylor opponent
- Kovatch moved into sole possession of second place on the SFU all-time scoring list with 2,185 career points. She trails Jess Zinobile by 153 points for first place all-time
