Bethlehem, Pa. – The Saint Francis men's basketball team (4-6) concludes its 11-game non-conference schedule at Lehigh (6-3) on Saturday, Dec. 22, at 12 p.m.
Â
Scouting Lehigh
Â
The Mountain Hawks are 6-3, their best start to a season through nine games since 2012-13. Balanced scoring is at the forefront of Lehigh's success as four players are averaging double figures led by senior guard Kyle Leufroy (14.8 ppg) and junior sharpshooter Pat Andree (14.7 ppg). The Mountain Hawks will try to space you out and find open shooters on the perimeter as they are 5
th in Division I in 3PT FG% at 43.7% as a team. Leufroy (51.4%), Andree (48.2%), Marques Wilson (42.1%) and Jordan Cohen (40.9%) are all shooting over 40%. If Lehigh is vulnerable in any area, it could be on the defensive glass. The Mountain Hawks have allowed an average on 11.9 offensive rebounds per game, a strength of the Red Flash.
Â
Series History
Â
The two schools have developed a competitive series over the last decade with Lehigh leading 10-5 all-time. Coach Krimmel is 2-4 against the Mountain Hawks since 2012-13 but one of the wins came last season in an 84-70 victory behind a career-high 27 points from
Andre Wolford (North Olmstead, Ohio/Saint Ignatius).
Better Worry About Wolford
Â
Saint Francis's offensive is predicated on its ability to knock down open shots, particularly from senior
Andre Wolford (North Olmstead, Ohio/Saint Ignatius). The Red Flash are 3-2 when Wolford scores in double figures this season and just 1-3 when he is held under the 10-point mark. Wolford came off the bench in Tuesday's win to score 15 points, 13 coming in the first half. He made three three-pointers in the win, his fourth game this season with three or more threes. He made a career-best nine three-pointers in SFU's win over Lehigh last season.
Â
Bank on the Blackmon
Â
With all the attention given to Wolford's shooting abilities, it's easy to forget about the man on the opposite end of the court. Teams that do so will pay dearly. Redshirt junior
Isaiah Blackmon (Charlotte, N.C./West Charlotte) is fourth in 3PT FG% among all NCAA
Division I players with at least 80 career 3PT FGs at 45.5% for his career. Blackmon shot 50.0% from three-point range as a sophomore in 2016-17, sixth best in Division I, and has started to find his rhythm once again this season. Over his last three games, Blackmon is averaging 18.7 ppg and has made 10 of his 15 (66.7%) of his three-point field goal attempts. Â
Closing Strong
Â
Saint Francis will look to head into conference play on a two-game win streak with a win over Lehigh on Saturday. A win would give SFU five wins in the non-conference portion of the schedule for just the third time in coach Krimmel's tenure.
