BROOKLYN, NY- SFU used a 15-0 run to grab the lead in the first quarter and a 12-0 run in the third to put it out of reach in a 85-54 triumph over LIU Brooklyn on Monday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
SFU shutdown the Blackbirds, holding them scoreless over the final five minutes of the first quarter as the Red Flash grabbed a lead that they wouldn't give up. Meanwhile, the offense was firing on all cylinders, shooting a season best 55 percent from the floor and 53 percent from three.
FIRST QUARTER RECAP
- Harrison hit a pair of early threes as SFU jumped out to a 6-0 lead
- LIU responded with a 12-2 run that ran into the media timeout
- The Red Flash held LIU scoreless over the final 4:49 of the quarter as LIU went 0-7 from the field
- Caitlyn Kroll (Bridgeport, Ohio/Bridgeport) scored five points to lead a 15-0 run to end the quarter
- SFU held a 23-12 lead after one
SECOND QUARTER RECAP
- The SFU lead hit 14 on a pair of occasions early, off Harrison's third three of the game and off a Kroll jumper
- Saint Francis poured it on midway through the quarter, ripping off a 12-0 run led by threes from Maya Wynn (Reisterstown, Md./McDonogh) and Karson Swogger (Bellwood, PA/Bellwood-Antis)
- The lead hit a high-point of 22 in the first half and SFU led 42-23 at the break
THIRD QUARTER RECAP
- The Red Flash opened the quarter with five-straight points off a Wynn three and a Wynn steal that led to a Harrison lay-up
- The Blackbirds responded with a 7-0 run
- An Ace Harrison (Baltimore, MD/Digital Harbor (Maryland)) chase-down block took us into the media timeout
- SFU again responded, scoring the next eight points and 10 of the next 12 to push the lead out to 25 at 62-37
- Leah Morrow (Columbus, Ohio/Columbus Africentric) closed the quarter with a pair of steals, leading to a pair of run-outs
- The Red Flash shot 10-12 (83 percent) in the quarter
- SFU scored the final six points of the quarter to lead 68-41 after three
FOURTH QUARTER RECAP
- Maya Wynn (Reisterstown, Md./McDonogh) hit her first seven shots of the game and her fourth three to put SFU up over 30
- Karson Swogger (Bellwood, PA/Bellwood-Antis) hit her second three of the game as SFU went over the 50 percent mark from three (12-23) and led by 33
- A great pocket pass from Kroll set up Kyasia Duling (Zanesville, Ohio/New Albany (Duquesne)) for an easy bucket and pushed SFU over the 80-point mark
- Jill Falvey (Lincroft, N.J./Middletown South) and Caitlin Carroll (Middletown, New Jersey/Red Bank Catholic) hit buckets down the stretch to cap the scoring
- SFU shot 55 percent from the field and 52 percent from three in the win
- The Red Flash moved to 11-1 in the NEC with a 85-54 victory
