Lewisburg, Pa- Your Saint Francis Red Flash Water Polo team beat Gannon 9-7 but lost to George Washington 13-21 on the final day of the Bison Invite. The Red Flash are 2-2 on the young season.Â

Against Gannon, the Red Flash raced off to a fast start as
Ani Aghakhanian (La Crescenta, Calif/La Valley College) scored after an assist from
Aimee Baur (North Wales, Pa/North Penn). The first quarter ended with Saint Francis up 1-0. Early in the second period, Gannon scored off a power play to tie it up. The Red Flash received a power play opportunity and
Marialena Seletopoulou (Glyfada Athens Greece/Yannopoulos School) cashed in with a goal. 50 seconds later,
Ani Aghakhanian (La Crescenta, Calif/La Valley College) scored for the second time. The score at intermission was 3-1 in favor of the Red Flash. In the third period, Seletopoulou struck again to extend the Red Flash lead. But Gannon, in an offensive flurry, tied the game up at 4-4. After a Saint Francis timeout,
Kelly Fehr (Erie, Pa/Villa Maria Academy) broke the deadlock. However, Gannon quickly retied the game. But Fehr was undaunted and scored on a clutch penalty shot to give the Red Flash a 6-5 lead entering the fourth period. With the score deadlocked at 7-7 and a minute thirteen left on the clock, Seletopoulou scored to give the Red Flash a lead they would not relinquish. Fehr added an insurance goal to provide the final score of 9-7.

In the afternoon match against George Washington, Fehr scored the first goal of the game. George Washington tied it up. Seletopoulou gave the Red Flash its last lead of the game at 2-1. The Colonials would pull away during the remainder of the first period to lead 6-3. In the second period, the Red Flash were able to pull within one point on a
Kelly Fehr (Erie, Pa/Villa Maria Academy)'s goal but George Washington scored twice to regain a three-point advantage. During the third period, the Colonials kept the Red Flash away until
Missy McCreary (Altadena, CA/LaSalle (Citrus College)) and Seletopoulou both scored to lower the deficit to 13-11. Unfortunately, like their nickname, George Washington proved victorious in the final quarter as the Colonials outscored the Red Flash 8-2 over the last period to win 21-13. Â
