SFU ends regular-season with 5th straight win, 80-60

BOX SCORE Loretto, Pa. - The Saint Francis men's basketball team (18-11, 12-6 NEC) will head into the NEC Tournament on a five-game winning streak, its longest since the 2010-11 season, after an 80-60 victory over Robert Morris on Saturday to close out the regular season. 

Krimmel's Reaction

"First off, I want to thank everyone who came out tonight. Our crowds have been terrific over the last month," said head coach Rob Krimmel. "It was a good performance tonight. Our guys are focused and playing our best basketball of the season. The playoffs are a new season. Everybody is 0-0 so we need to make sure we come out ready to play Wednesday night.

Turning Point

Saint Francis led by just two, 43-41, after a three-pointer by Robert Morris's Jon Williams with 16:35 to play in the second half before the Red Flash countered with a 10-0 run to grow its lead to 53-41. Junior guard Jamaal King (Salisbury, Md./Bishop O'Connell (Va.)) scored five of his game-high 26 points during the run. Robert Morris got no closer than nine points the rest of the way.

  • Saint Francis converted 29 of its 58 (50.0%) field goals and held the Colonials to just 21-of-57 (36.8%) from the field.
  • Junior guard Andre Wolford (Willowick, Ohio/Saint Ignatius) drilled five three-pointers as SFU went 7-of-21 (33.3%) from behind the arc. Robert Morris made 10 of 24 (41.7%) three-pointers.
  • Saint Francis shot 15-of-18 (83.3%) from the foul line, while Robert Morris was 8-for-11 (72.7%).
  • Saint Francis forced twice as many turnovers as it committed, winning the battle 16-8, and outscoring the Colonials 20-7 off turnovers. Sophomore Keith Braxton (Glassboro, N.J./The Lawrenceville School) led the charge with five steals.
  • Saint Francis was able to get in the paint and score over traffic. Points in the paint were 44-18 in SFU's favor.
Notes
  • King, the reigning NEC Co-Player of the Week, averaged 22.5 points per game this week and has scored 19 or more points in five straight.
  • Braxton added to his league lead in double-doubles with 19 points and 10 rebounds.
  • Wolford scored 21 points in the win, his second consecutive game of 21. Saint Francis is 13-2 when he scores 15 or more points.
  • Saint Francis surpassed its win total from last year with its 18th, the most since the 1990-91 team won 24 games in route to the program's lone NEC title.
  • SFU also bested its mark in conference from a year ago by a game. The 12 wins in NEC play are the most since the 90-91 team went 13-3.
  • With two assists, senior guard Malik Harmon (Queens, N.Y./Christ the King) moved into a tie-for-seventh in school history with 323 career assists.
