Senior Day Trophy: Red Flash Stuff Tigers

  • Saint Francis finished the regular season with a 9-20 overall record and was 4-10 in the EIVA.
  • SFU honored seniors Stephen Braswell (Manchester, Pa./Northeastern), Brandon Buck (Baden, Pa./Ambridge), Keith Kegerreis (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg), Shaughn McDonald (Coraopolis, Pa./Our Lady of Sacred Heart), and Joseph Wojciechowski (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe) prior to Saturday's match.
  • Braswell and Buck led the Red Flash offense with 37 combined kills.
 
 
Loretto, Pa- Saint Francis men's volleyball team sent off the senior class with a 3-2 victory over Princeton on Saturday afternoon at DeGol Arena. The Flash won 19-25, 25-20, 17-25, 25-23, and 15-13.
 
Saint Francis finished the regular season with a 9-20 overall record and was 4-10 conference record, while Princeton ends the season with a 11-15 record and was 7-7 in the EIVA.
 
Stephen Braswell (Manchester, Pa./Northeastern) led the Red Flash offense with 19 kills while Brandon Buck (Baden, Pa./Ambridge) contributed with 18. Joseph Koszelak (North Tonawanda, N.Y./St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute) also helped pace to the Red Flash offense by dishing out 52 assist on the night. Seniors Shaughn McDonald (Coraopolis, Pa./Our Lady of Sacred Heart) and Joseph Wojciechowski (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe) played significant roles in the SFU victory as Wojciechowski had two blocks along with 4 kills. McDonald had two service aces to go along with his six kills. Keith Kegerreis (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) finished the night with eight kills and two blocks.
 
Set One
Princeton opened the first set with a 5-1 lead before SFU would battle back to put things within one point. The Tigers would eventually go on another run as they jump out 13-7 lead and force the Red Flash to call its first timeout of the match. From the timeout, the Tigers would hold its big lead the rest of the way and win the set, 25-19.
 
Set Two
SFU would open the second set with an early 7-3 lead and force Princeton to call a timeout. The Red Flash would go on a 5-0 run out of the timeout, before Princeton would fight back to put things within four points, 22-18. The rest of the way was all Saint Francis, as the Flash would go on to win the set, 25-20.
 
Set Three
Tied at 1-1, the Tigers would jump out early 5-1 lead before the Red Flash would brawl its way back within one point, 9-8. Princeton would eventually pull away and extend its lead at the end to win the set, 25-17.
 
Set Four
Down 2-1, the Red Flash showed some true grit as they jumped out to a 7-3 early lead. The Tigers would battle back to tie things at 9-9 and keep it close until the end. Tied at 23-23, the Flash would take advantage of a Braswell kill and service error to go on and win the set, 25-23.

Set Five
Last and final set of the season, both teams keep things interesting as they would exchang points. SFU would eventually break away on a 2-0 run to lead 12-10 and force Princeton to call a timeout. The Red Flash held its two-point lead out of the timeout and went on to win the set, 15-13.
 
The Red Flash concludes its season as they send the seniors off on a strong note.
