Bison Buffalo and Colonials Outflank Red Flash Water Polo

Cambridge, Mass- Your Saint Francis Red Flash water polo team dropped two games to CWPA foes on Sunday. Bucknell beat the Red Flash 10-3 and George Washington marched past Saint Francis 10-1.

Flash Points
  • Gabrielle Garritson (Houston, Texas/Clear Lake High School) scored her fifth goal of the season.
  • Julia Kreidinger (Erie, Pennsylvania/Villa Maria) picked up her tenth goal of the season.
Highlights
  • The Bison stampeded out to a 4-0 lead using a mixture of offensive and defensive pressure. Missy McCreary (Altadena, CA/LaSalle (Citrus College)) drew two exclusions, which hindered the Red Flash.
  •  Bucknell ran their lead to 5-0 before a Kelly Fehr (Erie, Pa/Villa Maria Academy) goal broke the Red Flash goose egg. Bucknell responded with three more goals for an 8-1 halftime advantage.
  • Unfortunately in the third period, McCreary drew her third exclusion, which exiled her from the contest. Bucknell took advantage of the defensive void to claim a 9-1 lead. Marialena Seletopoulou (Glyfada Athens Greece/Yannopoulos School) scored to make it 9-2. That total held up into the fourth period.
  • Bucknell scored once in the fourth period. Gabrielle Garritson (Houston, Texas/Clear Lake High School) responded with her goal to finalize the scoring at 10-3.
  • As quick as a cavalry gallop, the Colonials jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first period.
  • The second period witnessed the Red Flash defense fighting valiantly but George Washington pushed across two more goals.
  • The third period saw more of the same as Saint Francis' shots would not convert but George Washington's shots found their targets for a 9-0 advantage entering the final period.
  • George Washington notched another goal for a 10-0 lead. With 28 seconds remaining, Julia Kreidinger (Erie, Pennsylvania/Villa Maria) prevented a shutout with an excellently placed shot.
 Notes
  • Saint Francis had 12 exclusions to 14 for Bucknell and George Washington
  • With her tally against Bucknell, Marialena Seletopoulou (Glyfada Athens Greece/Yannopoulos School) now has 95 goals on the season. She passes Emily Wickenheiser for most goals scored in a single season.
