Red Flash host Bucknell in home opener

Loretto, Pa.- The Saint Francis men's soccer team looks ahead to its home opener as the Red Flash welcome in the Bison of Bucknell University on Sunday, Sept. 2, at 1 p.m.

Scouting Bucknell
The Bison visit Loretto with a current record of 1-0 after posting a 7-8-3 record a season ago, falling in a Patriot League Quarterfinal match to Colgate 1-0. Sophomore Matt Thorsheim led the Bisons in 2017 and was named to the USC All- Northeast Region Team and College Soccer News 2017 All-Freshmen Team. Thorsheim scored five goals while also leading the team in assists with four. Nick King contributed to Thorsheim's success as he posted two assists nd four goals. Bucknell conceded 17 goals last season, 10 of which came in the first halves of games.

Bucknell holds the series advantage with a 10-7-2 record. A season ago, the Bisons got the best of the Red Flash with a 1-0 victory.

All About that Defense
Saint Francis' success in the opening weekend could be attributed to its defense. The Red Flash held opponents to zero goals in four halves before the streak ended with an overtime header. Seniors
Eric Ganime (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil/Colegio Icaro) and
Nicco Mastrangelo (Venetia, Pa/Peters Township) have been the Red Flash headliners with
Brandon Ott (Spring City, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) and
Filip Burnett (Germantown, Md./Poolesville) also playing vital roles.

Newcomer Spirit
Freshman
Alex Morgret (Hummelstown, Pa./Hershey) made his college debut at goalie this past weekend as he posted three saves in 187 total minutes.
Ryan Berhorst (Imperial, Mo./Seckman) also made his debut appearing in both contests posting 40 total minutes. Â
