Men’s soccer set to travel to NJIT

Loretto, Pa.- Fresh off its first home win, the Saint Francis men's soccer team (2-1) will travel to Newark, New Jersey to take on NJIT (3-0) on Wednesday, September 5th at 1 p.m.
 
Scouting NJIT
The Highlanders will be a good test for the Red Flash as they currently hold a 3-0 record and are coming off a 1-0 win over Rider this past weekend. Forward Rene White leads the Highlanders in scoring with two goals on five shots. He has also contributed with one assist which he recorded this past weekend. Junior midfielder Andrew Nino has also played a crucial role in the Highlander's success with four assists on this young season. NJIT have been stout defensively, recording two clean sheets in three matches. Goalkeeper Victor Pujades has posted eight saves and a 0.33 goals against average.  
 
Series History
Saint Francis is 1-0 all time vs NJIT. Wednesday's match will be the second time in school history that both teams will meet up SFU took the first match a year ago, 4-2.
 
Primetime Defensive Matchup
Both teams look to lean on their defenses as both have knotted two scoreless efforts so far this season. SFU, lead by senior Eric Ganime (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil/Colegio Icaro), will try to build off its last performance with it held Bucknell to only five total shots. NJIT will look to do the same after preventing Rider from scoring.
 
In This Together
The Red Flash battled through some adversity during Sunday's match but managed to stick together as a unit thanks to a strong senior core. Seniors Mario Mastrangelo (Venetia, Pa/Peters Township), Nicco Mastrangelo (Venetia, Pa/Peters Township), Eric Ganime (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil/Colegio Icaro), and Tulio Canineu (Corbin, Ky/Corbin) will look to make sure the Red Flash are focused and ready for what lies ahead in this week's two non-conference match-ups.
