BOX SCORE Niagara, N.Y. - The Saint Francis women's soccer team (2-3-2) fell to 0-2-1 on the road this season with a 2-0 loss at Niagara on Thursday night.

Turning Point

The first goal has been key for Saint Francis as the Red Flash fell to 0-3 when allowing the match's first goal. Annie Abey opened the scoring in the 17th minute, heading home a free kick from the right side of the box.

Highlights
  • Minutes before Niagara's opening goal, junior forward Alyssa McGhee (Altoona, Pa./Bishop Guilfoyle) nearly opened the scoring but her right-footed shot sailed over the crossbar from 14 yards out.

Sophomore Emilee Barnett (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) switched the play to sophomore Mariana Jaleca (Sebtubal, Portugal/). • For the second time in the match, McGhee narrowly missed a goal. Her header of a Jaleca cross was labeled for the far post but was saved by the Niagara goalkeeper.
  • With SFU knocking on the door, Niagara put the match out of reach in the 73rd minute. Kelsey Araujo turned the corner on the SFU defense and hit a shot past redshirt goalkeeper Julia Hernan (Collegeville, Pa./The Hill School).
