Saint Francis hits the road for contests at CCSU and Bryant

Loretto, Pa. - Saint Francis women's basketball (6-10, 3-1 NEC) continues Northeast Conference play on the road at Central Connecticut State on Saturday, Jan. 19 at 1 p.m. and Bryant on Monday, Jan. 21 at 2 p.m.

Scouting Central Connecticut State

The Blue Devils are 3-11 overall and 0-4 in NEC play. CCSU has lost six straight games with its last win coming against New Hampshire (56-47) on December 16. The Blue Devils along with LIU Brooklyn are the only two teams in the NEC still seeking its first conference win. CCSU is coming off two defeats at Fairleigh Dickinson (74-67) on Jan. 12 and Mount St. Mary's (84-53) on Jan. 14. Senior Kiana Patterson, who was named to the Preseason All-NEC team, leads Central in scoring with 15.9 ppg, which ranks fifth in the conference. Sophomore Ashley Berube is shooting 46.5% from the floor, which also ranks fifth in the league. The center is ninth in the conference in rebounding with 6.2 rpg and second in blocked shots with 2.0 bpg. Senior Andi Lydon ranks eighth in the NEC in free throw percentage (75.7).

Series History

Saint Francis leads the all-time series 28-12 with the Red Flash winning both meetings last season. SFU holds a 10-8 record when playing on the road at the Detrick Center.

Scouting Bryant

The Bulldogs are 4-11 overall and 2-2 in NEC play. Bryant dropped a heartbreaker at Sacred Heart, 49-48, in its last outing on Jan. 14. The Bulldogs previously defeated Mount St. Mary's, 73-68, on Jan. 12. Bryant is led offensively by two-time NEC Player of the Week, junior Sydney Holloway. The Preseason All-NEC team selection ranks fourth in the league in scoring with 17.5 ppg. Holloway also paces the team in rebounding with an NEC-best 12.5 rpg. Senior Kierra Palmer leads the Bulldogs and is second in the league in assists with 4.2 apg.

Series History

Saint Francis holds a narrow 9-8 lead in the all-time series with the Red Flash winning both meetings last season. SFU has had difficulty facing Bryant on the road as the Red Flash are 2-6 at the Chance Athletic Center.

Kovatch closing in on second place all-time in three-pointers in NCAA history

Senior guard Jess Kovatch (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg) has made a Saint Francis and NEC record 408 career three-pointers. She needs only three treys to pass Michigan's Katelynn Flaherty for second place in NCAA history. Ohio State's Kelsey Mitchell holds the all-time record with 497 career triples.

Zezza nearing Saint Francis all-time blocks record

Senior forward Courtney Zezza (Plum, PA/Plum) sits in second place all-time at SFU with 255 career blocks, which ranks fourth among active NCAA players. She trails Cheril Meier by 23 blocks for first place in Saint Francis history.
