SFU hosts Sacred Heart and Wagner at DeGol Arena

Loretto, Pa. – Saint Francis women's basketball (6-12, 3-3 NEC) returns home to DeGol Arena to face Sacred Heart (10-7, 6-0 NEC) on Saturday, Jan. 26 at 4 p.m. and Wagner (5-12, 3-3 NEC) on Monday, Jan. 28 at 7 p.m.
 
Scouting Sacred Heart
The Pioneers are one of two undefeated teams in conference play with the other being Robert Morris. Sacred Heart has won six-straight games and is powered offensively by four-time NEC Player of the Week Katherine Haines. Haines has won the last two Player of the Week honors and recorded the program's first ever triple-double performance with 25 points,15 rebounds and 11 blocks in a 68-66 win over St. Francis Brooklyn on Saturday. The graduate student backed that up by scoring 19 points to surpass 1,000 career points in a 72-64 win over Wagner on Monday. Sophomore Adrianne Hagood has played well for the Pioneers so far as she sits ninth in the league in scoring (12.7 ppg).
 
Series History
Sacred Heart leads the all-time series 23-14 with the Red Flash winning the last meeting over the Pioneers, 78-47, in the NEC Tournament semifinals on March 8, 2018. Saint Francis is 10-8 all-time against Sacred Heart inside DeGol Arena.
 
Scouting Wagner
The Seahawks are off to a steady start in NEC play with an even 3-3 record headed into its matchup at Robert Morris on Saturday. Wagner is fresh off a 72-64 defeat at Sacred Heart on Monday. In conference-only games, the Seahawks are the top scoring team in Northeast Conference play with 71.8 ppg. Wagner is shooting a conference-leading, 47.8 percent from the field in six league games. Taylah Simmons has been on a tear the last few games as the sophomore is averaging 20.6 ppg over her last three contests. The redshirt sophomore leads the team in scoring this season with 13.2 ppg.
 
Series History
Saint Francis leads the all-time series with 46-22 with the Red Flash winning both of last season's meetings over the Seahawks. SFU is 24-9 all-time against Wagner inside DeGol Arena.
 
Zezza's block party soon to become best in school history
Senior Courtney Zezza (Plum, PA/Plum) has made her name known as one of the Northeast Conference's premier shot blockers over the past four seasons. The 6-4 forward leads the league this season and ranks eighth in the nation with 2.8 bpg. Zezza sits in second place all-time at SFU with 262 career blocks, which ranks third among active NCAA players. She needs 17 blocks to pass Cheril Meier for first place in Saint Francis history.
 
Red Flash look to avoid fourth-straight NEC defeat
After a perfect 3-0 start to NEC play, the Red Flash have dropped its last three conference contests. Saint Francis will look to avoid a four-game skid with a win on Saturday over Sacred Heart. The last time SFU lost four-straight NEC games was the 2014-15 season.
