Men’s Volleyball Starts Road Swing in Columbus, OH

Loretto, Pa.- Fresh off a win over McKendree on Saturday, Saint Francis men's volleyball team (4-3, 0-1 EIVA) travels to Ohio State (3-4, 0-1 MIVA) on Friday night to continue its non-conference schedule at St. John Arena.

About the Buckeyes
Ohio State started the 2019 season 2-0 before losing multiple games in a row. The Buckeyes dropped three straight matches before breaking that trend with a 3-0 victory over Erskine. In last weekend's conference opener against Ball State, the Buckeyes fell 3-1 despite winning the first set by a big margin, 25-14. Redshirt sophomore Jake Hanes and sophomore Martin Lallemand led the team in the loss, combining for 29 kills on 69 total attempts while contributing for 14 of the teams 39 digs.  Hanes leads OSU in kills by far with 133 to date. Senior Blake Leeson anchors the defense with 20 blocks. The Buckeyes and Red Flash share two common opponents in BYU and Penn State. SFU is 0-2 in those matches as Ohio State is 1-1.
 
About the Red Flash
Saint Francis currently sits 4-3 overall on the season and 0-1 in the EIVA after falling 3-1 to Penn State last Monday. The Red Flash played in nine total sets over the weekend, dropping a five-set thriller to Lindenwood on Friday before bouncing back to defeat McKendree 3-1 on Saturday. EIVA Offensive Player of the Week honoree Michael Fisher (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley (Pepperdine)) led the charge with 65 kills on a .300% hitting clip. Cole Carver (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) also contributed on the defensive side by knocking down 18 blocks on a 1.12 blocks per set percentage.   
 
Fisher leads the team with 192 total kills followed by senior Cole Thompson (Los Alamitos, Calif./Los Alamitos) with 61. Redshirt junior Patrick Bryan (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) is not far behind with 59 recorded kills. Setter BJ Blair (Bridgewater, N.Y./Bridgewater Raritan) is the main source of assists for the Red Flash with 256 recorded on the season thus far. Bryan has 12 service aces on the season leading the Red Flash. Defensive efforts are controlled by libero Gabe Woffindin (Allentown, Pa./William Allen) who has 55 total digs. Blair, Thompson, Fisher, and Bryan round out the rest of the defense, Blair with 35 digs, Thompson with 30, Bryan with 25, and Fisher with 24. The Red Flash have a strong presence defensively at the net with middle hitter Cole Carver (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) leading the team with 26 total blocks. Middle hitter Hayden Herc (Eden, N.Y./Eden) is close behind with 21 blocks, Fisher and Blair are next, each with 15 total blocks.
 
Series History
Ohio State leads the all-time series with the Red Francis by a count of 1-29. The last time the Buckeyes and Red Flash met was March 17, 2018 when Ohio State claimed a 3-0 victory.
