Red Flash shutout LIU, 30-0

Brookville, N.Y. - The Saint Francis football team (4-3, 2-1 NEC) put on a dominant performance in all three phases of the game in a 30-0 win at LIU on Saturday.

Saint Francis held LIU to just 157 total yards of offense, the fewest yards allowed since a win over West Virginia Wesleyan on Nov. 29, 2018. It was the first shutout posted by the defense since a 21-0 win over Robert Morris on Nov. 14, 2015.

Redshirt sophomore quarterback Jason Brown (Fredericksburg, Va./Chancellor) accounted for 293 total yards of offense, completing 18-of-27 passes for 247 yards and three touchdowns while rushing for another 46 yards on the ground.

After the SFU defense forced a three-and-out to open the game, Saint Francis drove 49 yards in eight offensive plays. Redshirt junior Ra'Shaun Henry (Killeen, Texas /Copperas Cove) appeared to put Saint Francis in front with a touchdown reception from Brown but it was called back for illegal touching. Saint Francis settled for a 26-yard field goal instead as sophomore Trevor Thompson (Columbus, Ohio/Canal Winchester) split the uprights from 26 yards.

Henry got revenge late in the second quarter, making an acrobatic leaping snag of a Brown throw on 3rd and 6 from the LIU 11 for SFU's first touchdown of the game and Henry's second of the season.

The Sharks drove into SFU territory on their final possesion of the half but redshirt freshman Jaylen Parks (Dallas, Ga./North Paulding) sacked the LIU quarterback and jarred the ball loose allowing redshirt junior Jake Heiple (Somerset, Pa./Somerset) to recover and send SFU into the half leading 9-0.

The game remained 9-0 into the third quarter until Saint Francis busted the game open with its best drive of the season. The Red Flash took over 1st and 10 from its own two yard line with 8:36 to play in the quarter and proceeded to march 98 yards in 15 plays and 8:41. Redshirt junior Terell Johnson (Burlington, N.C./Cummings) finished the scoring march with a 10-yard touchdown reception to give SFU a 16-0 lead with 14:55 to play in the fourth quarter.

A 79-yard touchdown reception from redshirt sophomore E.J. Jenkins, his sixth score of the season, and the first career touchdown run from redshirt sophomore Derrick Wiley (Aberdeen, N.J./Matawan Regional) closed the scoring.

SFU's defense sacked LIU four times for a net loss of 33 yards and held the Sharks to -1 yards on the ground.

Senior Da'Jon Lee (Falls Church, Va. /Robinson) was a force with seven tackles, four tackles for a loss and a sack to go with his second blocked field goal in as many weeks.

Parks was nearly as dominant on the opposite side finishing with six stops, two tackles for a loss and a sack.

Jenkins led all pass catchers with three catches for 107 yards and a score. Redshirt sophomore Brandan Lisenby (Alexandria, Va./West Potomac) added five catches for 71 yards and Henry finished with four catches for 40 yards and a score.

Redshirt sophomore Syaire Madden (Norristown,Pa./LaSalle College Prep) ran hard with 30 yards on six carries in his first career game. Senior Avery Miliner (Clayton, Ohio/Northmont) tacked on 34 yards on 10 carries and Wiley finished with seven rushes for 27 yards and the touchdown.

Saint Francis has allowed 20 points or fewer in five of its seven games and is allowing just 8.67 points per game in three conference games.

It was the second game this season that the Red Flash defense held its opponent without an offensive touchdown as they did so at Lehigh in the season opener.

Saint Francis hosts Sacred Heart next Saturday, Oct. 26, at noon in a pivotal NEC matchup.
