Red Flash pull off comeback to defeat Merrimack in double overtime, 3-2

North Andover, Mass. – Alyssa McGhee (Altoona, Pa./Bishop Guilfoyle) scored the game-winning goal in the 106th minute as Saint Francis women's soccer (6-8-1, 5-3-0 NEC) knocked off Merrimack (3-12-0, 1-7-0 NEC) 3-2 in double overtime on Friday at Martone-Mejail Field. With the win, the Red Flash stayed alive in the NEC playoff picture with two matches remaining in the regular season.

"I'm really proud of the team coming back from being down 2-0," head coach Ellie Davis said. "Credit to Merrimack for coming out strong. I'm glad we could get the win on the road after a long trip here. We look forward to facing CCSU on Sunday!"

Merrimack struck first with a goal in the 44th minute to hold a 1-0 lead at halftime. The Warriors scored again to take a 2-0 lead in the 47th minute.

Saint Francis responded with a McGhee goal off a Corinne Renninger (Bechtelsville, Pa./Boyertown) and Aubrey Suydam (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) assist to cut the lead to 2-1 in the 63rd minute. Barnett added an equalizer off a Mariana Jaleca (Sebtubal, Portugal) assist in the 69th minute to knot the score at 2-2, which was where it would remain at the end of regulation.

After a scoreless first overtime period, McGhee found the back of the net in the second overtime off a Leanna Choo (Germantown, Md./Northwest) and Abigail Tarosky (North Huntington, Pa./Norwin) assist to give the Red Flash the victory.
