Red Flash travel to sunshine state to face FGCU and No. 22 South Florida

Loretto, Pa. - Saint Francis women's basketball (1-3) travels to the sunshine state to face Florida Gulf Coast (4-1) and No. 22 South Florida (4-1) this weekend. The Red Flash meet FGCU on Friday, Nov. 22 at 2 p.m. before playing at USF on Sunday, Nov. 24 at 2 p.m.
 
Scouting Florida Gulf Coast
The Eagles have won four of their first five games and are coming off an 89-56 win over Johnson & Wales (Fla.) on Tuesday. FGCU opened the season with a 100-54 win over Florida International on Nov. 5. The Eagles then defeated Webber International (Fla.) 99-48 on Nov. 7 and knocked off UCF 72-50 on Nov. 13. Florida Gulf Coast recorded its only loss of the season at Princeton 67-53 on Nov. 19. FGCU is averaging 82.6 points per game, while allowing 55.0 ppg. The Eagles rank first in the NCAA in three-point field goals made per game (14.2). Davion Wingate leads the team in scoring with 19.8 ppg, while Keri Jewett-Giles is averaging 13.8 ppg.
 
Series History
Saint Francis is 0-2 in the all-time series history against Florida Gulf Coast. The Eagles defeated the Red Flash in the first meeting 75-68 on Dec. 20, 2013 in Fort Myers, Fla. FGCU knocked off SFU last season 83-69 on Dec. 5, 2018 in Loretto.
 
Scouting South Florida
The No. 22 Bulls started off the 2019-20 campaign with four straight wins before a 58-46 loss at No. 2 Baylor on Tuesday. South Florida opened the season with a 70-39 victory over Jacksonville on Nov. 5. The Bulls then knocked off No. 15 Texas 64-57 on Nov. 8. USF defeated Howard 82-53 on Nov. 12 and beat VCU 77-55 on Nov. 15. South Florida is averaging 67.8 ppg, while allowing 52.4 ppg. Bethy Mununga leads the team in scoring with 13.4 ppg, while Enna Pehadzic is averaging 13.0 ppg.

Saint Francis is 0-2 in the all-time series history against South Florida. The Bulls defeated the Red Flash in the first meeting 86-74 on Dec. 31, 2009 in Tampa, Fla. USF knocked off SFU 129-80 in the most recent meeting on Dec. 14, 2016 in Tampa, Fla.
 
Whittington records first career win as head coach
Head coach Keila Whittington recorded her first career win as a head coach in a 78-73 win over Stetson on Nov. 16 in the Eagle Invitational at Morehead State.
 
Swogger nets career-high in scoring
Junior Karson Swogger (Bellwood, PA/Bellwood-Antis) scored a career-high 29 points in the Red Flash's win over Stetson. Swogger shot 10-of-20 from the floor, including 3-of-8 from three-point range. The Bellwood, Pa. native was 6-of-9 from the free throw line, while adding four rebounds and five assists.
 
Dettwiller stepping up in freshman season
Freshman Katie Dettwiller (Portsmouth, Ohio/Notre Dame) scored nine points, while adding six rebounds and recording two blocks in the Red Flash's 78-73 win over Stetson. Dettwiller shot 3-of-4 from the floor and 3-of-4 from the free throw line. The Portsmouth, Ohio native scored a career-high 12 points, while adding five rebounds and two blocks against Morehead State. She shot a perfect 5-of-5 from the floor and 2-of-2 from the charity stripe.
