Red Flash set to host Liberty Wednesday night

Loretto, Pa. – Saint Francis women's basketball (2-7) returns to the friendly confines on DeGol Arena for a midweek contest against Liberty (4-6) on Wednesday, Dec. 18 at 7 p.m.

Scouting Liberty
The Flames have had an up and down start to the season, but are coming off two straight wins over East Carolina and Hampton. Liberty opened the season with a win over Norfolk State followed by five straight losses. In that stretch, the Flames narrowly fell to Virginia Tech, 73-69. Keyen Green, the 2018 Big South Player of the Year, is making a successful return from an ankle injury which sidelined her for the entire 2018-19 season. The redshirt junior center is leading the Flames in both scoring (11.8 ppg) and rebounding (7.2 rpg). Fellow junior post player Bridgette Rettstatt has stepped up her play in recent weeks, scoring in double figures in four straight games.

Series History
Liberty won the only meeting between the schools in program history last season. The Flames defeated the Red Flash 82-53 on Nov. 17, 2018 in Lynchburg, Va.

Two programs with similar recent histories
The Flames and Red Flash have enjoyed a similar trajectory in recent seasons. Both teams won 24 games and made NCAA Tournament appearances in 2018 before posting 16-win seasons and losing in conference championship games in 2019.

Red Flash push A-10 foe Duquesne to the brink
Saint Francis nearly pulled off an upset over Atlantic 10 in-state rival Duquesne on Sunday in Pittsburgh. The Red Flash led by 11 points in the fourth quarter before the Dukes made a late rally to force overtime. Duquesne pulled out a 72-69 win in the extra session.

Saint Francis standout stats
Despite the defeat to Duquesne, the Red Flash recorded several impressive statistical numbers. Most notably, SFU won the battle on the boards against a much bigger Dukes squad, 38-33. Saint Francis also recorded a season-high 16 assists, five of which came from junior Karson Swogger (Bellwood, PA/Bellwood-Antis). The Red Flash scored 40 points in the paint and 20 points off the bench.
