Red Flash fall to Bucknell in non-conference finale

Loretto, Pa. – Saint Francis women's basketball (2-9) fell to Bucknell (7-3) 70-46 in the non-conference finale on Saturday at DeGol Arena. Karson Swogger (Bellwood, PA/Bellwood-Antis) paced the Red Flash with 14 points.

SFU got off to a fast start and held a 9-8 lead following a Swogger three-pointer with 6:54 to play in the first quarter. Bucknell took a 12-11 lead before back-to-back Swogger jumpers put the Red Flash ahead 15-12 with 2:45 left in the first period. A Bison layup with just over a minute to play in the frame cut the Saint Francis lead to 15-14 at the end of the first stanza.

Bucknell opened the second quarter on a 14-5 run to seize a 28-20 advantage with 5:55 to go in the second period. The Bison extended their lead to 34-22 before a Lili Benzel (Altoona, PA/Bishop Guilfoyle (Shippensburg)) three-pointer momentarily cut the margin down to single digits. Bucknell held a 36-25 halftime advantage.

SFU had a promising start to the third quarter as a Katie Dettwiller (Portsmouth, Ohio/Notre Dame) layup sparked a 7-2 Red Flash run that trimmed the lead to 38-32 with 6:53 remaining in the third frame. Bucknell then took over and went on a 20-0 run to grab a commanding 58-32 lead. The Bison held a 60-34 advantage at the end of the third stanza.

Bucknell continued its surge in the fourth quarter, taking its largest lead of the game at 66-38 with 5:55 to go. The Bison rolled from there to secure the victory over the Red Flash.
