Women's basketball hosts Youngstown State for home opener Saturday

Loretto, Pa. – Saint Francis women's basketball (2-5) returns to Loretto after a seven-game road swing for its home opener against Youngstown State (4-3) on Saturday, December 7. Tipoff at DeGol Arena is set for 2 p.m.
 
Scouting Youngstown State
The Penguins are coming off its first road win of the season as it beat Eastern Kentucky 72-63 on Tuesday at McBrayer Arena in Richmond, Ky. Youngstown State recorded a 64-42 win over NEC opponent Wagner on Nov. 23. YSU fell to NEC preseason favorite Robert Morris 58-43 on Nov. 13. Junior guard Chelsea Olson has three double-doubles and a triple-double through seven games. She is the Horizon League's top rebounder with 9.1 per game, and she is fifth with 3.7 assists per game. Senior forward Mary Dunn leads the Penguins in scoring with 17.0 ppg, but has only played in four games this season due to injury.
 
Series History
Saint Francis is 3-3 in the all-time series history with Youngstown State. Each squad has gone 2-1 on its home floor and all six meetings have come since the 2007-08 season when the Penguins had its only win at SFU. The Red Flash won 94-58 in 2009 and 79-65 in 2017 at DeGol Arena. Youngstown State won last season's meeting 80-56 on Dec. 8, 2018 at the Beeghly Center.
 
Swogger lighting it up from long range
Junior guard Karson Swogger (Bellwood, PA/Bellwood-Antis) came up in the clutch twice for the Red Flash in SFU's 73-69 double overtime win at Vermont. With 52 seconds to go in regulation, Swogger connected on a three-pointer from the top of the key to tie the game 55-55 and send it to an extra session. The Bellwood, Pa. native stepped up again in the clutch with a deep triple to put SFU ahead 70-69 with 33 seconds remaining in the second overtime period. She scored 18 points and was 4-of-8 from three-point range on the afternoon.
 
Home at last
Saint Francis returns to the friendly confines of DeGol Arena for the first time this season. SFU's first seven games were away from home with five true road games and two neutral site contests. The Red Flash have enjoyed success at home over the past two seasons, going a combined 23-6 at DeGol Arena, including a 10-4 mark in 2018-19.
 
Toys for Tots
The Saint Francis women's basketball team, in collaboration with the United States Marine Corps, will host its annual Toys for Tots game on Saturday. Fans can drop off a toy and receive half-price admission into the game. For further questions call Margie McHenry at 814-472-3286.
