SFU hosts Brooklyn schools for final regular season home games

Loretto, Pa. – Saint Francis women's basketball (12-13, 9-4 NEC) hosts LIU Brooklyn (3-21, 2-11 NEC) for Senior Day on Saturday, Feb. 23 at 4 p.m. and St. Francis Brooklyn (15-10, 9-4 NEC) in the home finale on Monday, Feb. 25 at 7 p.m. Saturday is the annual "Think Pink" game where the Red Flash will be helping raise awareness for breast cancer.
 
Scouting LIU Brooklyn
The Blackbirds are in last place in the Northeast Conference, but have started to hit its stride late in the season. LIU has won two of its last three contests, including a 71-61 win over Mount St. Mary's on Feb. 11. LIU fell to St. Francis Brooklyn 87-64 on Feb. 16 before knocking off Sacred Heart 69-64 on Feb. 18. Freshman Brandy Thomas received her fifth NEC Rookie of the Week honor this past week. Sophomore Jeydah Johnson leads the Blackbirds in scoring with 13.6 points per game, while Thomas is averaging 13.4 ppg. Thomas also paces the team's rebounding efforts with 9.7 boards per contest,
which ranks second in the NEC. Sophomore Tia Montagne leads LIU in assists with 3.2 apg.
 
Series History
Saint Francis leads the all-time series 48-17 and has a 26-5 record against the Blackbirds inside DeGol Arena. The Red Flash have won the last eight meetings, including an 80-66 win over LIU earlier this season in Brooklyn on Jan. 12.
 
Scouting St. Francis Brooklyn
The Terriers sit in a three-way tie for second place in the Northeast Conference with the Red Flash and Sacred Heart. St. Francis Brooklyn has won four of its last five games, including its previous two contests over LIU Brooklyn on Feb. 16 and a 70-58 victory over CCSU on Feb. 18. The Terriers lead the league in several statistical categories, including scoring offense (74.4 ppg), free throw percentage (74.5%), field goal percentage (44.0%), three-point field goal percentage (39.5%) rebounding margin (+5.4) and assists (16.6 apg). Junior Jade Johnson is the reigning NEC Player of the Week and ranks second in the conference in scoring with 19.5 ppg. Senior Amy O'Neill ranks second in the country with 8.3 apg.
 
Series History
The Red Flash lead the all-time series 43-18 and has a 25-6 record against the Terriers inside DeGol Arena. St. Francis Brooklyn won the meeting earlier this season 78-65 in Brooklyn on Jan. 14.
 
Thomas shining bright for Red Flash
Sophomore Haley Thomas (Hooversville, PA/Bishop McCort) had a standout performance against Robert Morris on Monday with 17 points and eight rebounds. She has scored in double figures in seven of the last eight contests. Thomas ranks second in the NEC in free throw percentage (87.0%).
 
SFU winning streak stalls at six
Saint Francis had its six-game winning streak come to a close on Monday in a 66-60 defeat to Robert Morris. It was the Red Flash's first home conference loss of the season and first loss since Jan. 21 at Bryant.
 
Saturday's Senior Day
Saint Francis will honor its five seniors on Saturday in Jess Kovatch (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg), Courtney Zezza (Plum, PA/Plum), Jill Falvey (Lincroft, N.J./Middletown South), AJ Timbers (Philadelphia, PA/Neumann Gorretti (Towson)) and Aunesha Williams (Miami, FL/McEachern (Morgan State)). Kovatch has left her mark on the record books as the all-time leading scorer (2,704 career points) and three-point shooter (446 career threes) in program and NEC history. Zezza is SFU's all-time leading shot blocker with 284 career blocks. Falvey appeared in 71 games, scoring 44 points. Timbers has scored 54 points and recorded 24 rebounds this season, while Williams has netted 121 points and pulled in 86 boards in 2018-19.
