Loretto, Pa – Sophomore
Amanda Heidt (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) of the Saint Francis women's lacrosse team (2-4) waited until the closing moments of the second half to tally her third goal of the season on Wednesday, netting the game-winning goal with 23 seconds remaining in a 10-9 win against Longwood (2-5).
Concheck's Reaction
"We were very excited to finally be at home and put on the white jerseys. We came out strong and controlled the tempo of the game in the first half. Longwood is a chippy team and it has been a one-goal game between us for the past three seasons, so we knew it would be a gritty game and it would come down to the wire. We scored two phenomenal goals down the stretch to prevent Longwood's comeback and pick up the win."
Turning Point
After
Emileigh Scott (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) directed the draw control toward her teammates,
Peyton LeConte (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron) gained possession and streaked through the Lancers defense, netting her first career goal as a member of the Red Flash and ending Longwood's 8-0 scoring run. The Lancers Kaitlin Luccarelli immediately responded with a goal that tied the game with 1:11 remaining in the second half. LeConte won the ensuing draw control, giving SFU the chance to hold for the game's final shot. During the Red Flash possession, LWU's Dana Joss was called for a defensive foul, that set up a free-position opportunity.
Amanda Heidt (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) buried the eight-meter free position shot giving Saint Francis a 10-9 advantage with 23 seconds remaining. Scott won the following draw control to seal the game for the Red Flash.
