Loretto, Pa.- The Saint Francis water polo team, after many weekends of traveling, hosts Mercyhurst and Gannon in the sole homestead of the year.
Scouting Mercyhurst
The Lakers are 1-11 on the season with their singular win coming over the Virginia Military Institute. Despite their record, the Lakers have been competitive against their tough schedule. Maddie Nye has been one of the offensive stars for Mercyhurst. Head coach Curtis Robinette enters his 18
th season at the helm of the program. Saint Francis is 2-0 against Mercyhurst with both meetings occurring in 2017.
Scouting Gannon
The Lady Knights enter the weekend at 4-12 on the season. Gannon has played an ambitious schedule but have held their own in the pool. The Lady Knights have four capable scorers in Campbell Ruh, Julia Kredinger, Sydney Fountain, and
Kelly Fehr (Erie, Pa/Villa Maria Academy). Head coach Shane Unger is in his first year on the job. Saint Francis is 2-2 all-time with Gannon. The Red Flash won 8-6 this year at the Bison Invite.
Senior Day
The 6 pm game against Gannon will serve as Senior Day for the Red Flash. Saint Francis will be honoring
Ani Aghakhanian (La Crescenta, Calif/La Valley College),
Kelsey Gring (Sinking Spring, Pa/Wilson),
Kaitlyn Nguyen (Annandale, Va/Bishop Ireton), and
Kate Wilke (Burbank, Calif./Burroughs) for their accomplishments and services to the young water polo program.
Frankie Cup
Gannon will also serve as water polo's Frankie Cup game.
Record Breaking News
Erin O'Neill (Landsdale, Pa/North Penn) is three steals away from breaking the program's all-time record for steals.
Defensive Force
Speaking of O'Neill, the utility player earned CWPA Defensive Player of the Week honors for her performances during the team's California travel.
