ANN ARBOR, Mich. The Saint Francis water polo team lost two games against nationally ranked opponents on Saturday. No. 13 Fresno State won 17-7 and No. 6 Pacific triumphed 21-2.
Fresno State Recap
- The Red Flash drew first blood on Kelsey Gring's (Sinking Spring, Pa/Wilson) goal.
- 16 seconds later, Fresno State tied it up.
- By the end of the first period, the Bulldogs were 4-1.
- Metzli Enriquez (Atwater, CA/El Capitan) scored a second period goal to cut the deficit to 6-2.
- Fresno State, in an agonizing habit, struck back with quick answers.
- Camillie Nguyen (Mason, Ohio/Mason) and Kelsey Gring (Sinking Spring, Pa/Wilson) scored two goals but the halftime margin was 9-4 FSU.
- A Breanna Dupperon (Regina, Canada/Campbell Collegiate) goal drew the Red Flash within four but Fresno State once again responded swiftly with two goals.
- By the end of the third period, it was 16-5 Fresno State.
- The Red Flash fought hard to end the game. Both Dupperon and Kaitlyn Nguyen (Annandale, Va/Bishop Ireton) added goals to finalize the scoring at 17-7.
University of the Pacific Recap
- The Tigers, burning bright, quickly displayed why no immortal eye or hand could stop their fearful symmetry. Pacific scored eight goals in the first period and held the Red Flash scoreless.
- The shutout continued into the second period as Pacific tacked on six more goals for a 14-0 halftime lead.
- Saint Francis never stopped playing. Julia Bradford (Edinboro, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) notched her first ever collegiate goal to break the zero off the board and Breanna Dupperon (Regina, Canada/Campbell Collegiate) added another goal.
- Because of the effort, Pacific and Saint Francis tied with two goals scored in the third period for a 16-2 mark.
- Pacific controlled the remainder of the game and won 21-2.
