WASHINGTON, D.C.- The Saint Francis water polo lost two games against CWPA conference mates at the George Washington Mini on Saturday. SFU lost 13-6 to #14 Harvard and 16-8 to #24 Bucknell.
Harvard Recap
- Saint Francis struck first blood with a goal by Breanna Dupperon (Regina, Canada/Campbell Collegiate).
- The Crimson wasted little time countering by scoring six goals in the first period.
- SFU tallied three goals in the second period. Ani Aghakhanian (La Crescenta, Calif/La Valley College) scored two goals and Cam Ngyuen added the third.
- Harvard also scored three goals to keep the deficit at five points. Halftime score was 9-4.
- The Crimson put the game to bed by scoring four goals in the third period to go up 13-4.
- Kelsey Gring (Sinking Spring, Pa/Wilson) stopped the run with a goal to make it 13-5 entering the final period.
- The Red Flash held Harvard scoreless in the fourth period but the offense only managed a Julia Bradford (Edinboro, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) goal and SFU fell 13-6.
Bucknell Recap
- Metztli Enriquez (Atwater, CA/El Capitan) tallied two goals in the first period but Bucknell, like Harvard did, scored six goals to take the early lead.
- In the second period, the Bison were held to a mere two goals.
- Erin O'Neill (Landsdale, Pa/North Penn) scored the lone SFU goal in the second quarter for a 8-3 halftime deficit.
- The Bison stampeded through the third period scoring eight goals.
- Enriquez provided the sole SFU answer in that fateful period to make it 16-4.
- Like in the Harvard game, Bucknell was held scoreless by a tenacious Red Flash defense.
- Aghakhanian, Gabby Garritson (Houston, Texas/Clear Lake High School), Caroline Gillespie (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn High School) and Enriquez all scored in the fourth quarter to finalize the game at 16-8.
Notes
- Enriquez led all SFU scorers with four goals.
- The Red Flash won two out of eight sprints.
