LEWISBURG, Pa.- The Saint Francis water polo (9-23) lost two CWPA matches on Saturday. Host No. 18 Bucknell defeated SFU, 12-5, and George Washington beat Saint Francis 10-9.
Bucknell Recap
- The Bison jumped out to a 2-0 lead by the end of period one.
- Julia Bradford's (Edinboro, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) goal put SFU on the board but Bucknell lead 5-1 at halftime.
- Despite Kaitlyn Nguyen's (Annandale, Va/Bishop Ireton) goal, Bucknell put the game to rest with six goals in the third period.
- SFU scored three goals to the Bison's one in the fourth period but Bucknell won a comfortable 12-5 victory.
George Washington Recap
- Saint Francis jumped out to a 2-1 first period lead courtesy of Metztli Enriquez's (Atwater, CA/El Capitan) two scores.
- George Washington led 5-4 at halftime despite goals by Caroline Gillespie (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn High School) and Bradford.
- In the third period, Gabby Garritson (Houston, Texas/Clear Lake High School) and Bradford put two goals in the net but GW remained in front, 8-6.
- Once again, a SFU and GW water polo match came down to a frantic finish. Gillespie, Garritson, and Bradford all scored to cut the deficit down to 10-9.
- The Red Flash rallied hard but the use of timeouts and a defensive strategy were not enough to force overtime. The Colonials held on for a 10-9 win.
