Shipping up to Cambridge: CWPA Play Commences at Harvard

LORETTO, Pa.- The Saint Francis water polo team starts CWPA play with three matches at Harvard. The Red Flash duel a trio of three ranked teams in #6 Michigan, #15 Princeton, and #14 Harvard. Saint Francis plays Michigan and Princetion on Saturday at 11:30 am and 5:00 pm respectively. Harvard is the lone Sunday game at noon. 

Scouting Michigan

Michigan has faced a schedule filled to the brim with ranked teams. Only one Wolverine opponent has been unranked thus far. Despite, the heavy workload, Michigan is 15-8. Freshman Abby Andrews has been a force since she first hit the pool racking up four CWPA Rookie of the Week awards. The Australian has scored 36 goals and 44 assists for 80 points. Andrews has also won 31 out of 36 sprints. Maddy Steere is third in goals scored (33). Julia Sellers leads the squad in scoring with 38 goals. Heidi Ritner has played 652 minutes of the possible 734 minutes recording 150 saves. Head coach Dr. Marcelo Leonardi is in his fifth season of leading the Wolverines. During his tenure, he has captured three CWPA championships. SFU is 0-3 all-time against Michigan. 

Scouting Princeton

The Tigers enter the match ranked #15 and 16-7 on the season. Princeton has already beaten Harvard and George Washington to start 2-0 in CWPA play. While the schedule has not been as heavy in ranked squads as Michigan, Princeton has played a large amount of ranked opponents especially during western road trips. Star goalkeeper Marissa Webb returns to the nets and continued her stellar defensive play. Webb has 167 saves for a save percentage of .539%. Amy Castellano leads the team in goals with 61. Head coach Derek Ellingson is in his first season at the helm. The Red Flash are 0-2 all-time against Princeton. 

Scouting Harvard

Harvard remains ranked at #14 after competing at the George Washington Mini. The Crimson defeated SFU, George Washington, and Bucknell to improve to 18-4 overall and 1-1 in conference play. The 18 wins already tops last year's mark of 17 victories. Offensively, Harvard is led by Kristen Hong and Sofia Carrera-Justiz while senior goalkeeper Sam Acker keeps the nets clean. Head coach Ted Minnis enters his ninth season at the helm of the Crimson. Saint Francis is 0-5 all-time against Harvard.
