Jessell's heroics send Red Flash past Air Force in 3-2 double overtime victory

BOX SCORE USAF Academy, Colo. – Sophomore midfielder Rhiallie Jessell (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock) scored the game-winning goal in the 106th minute as Saint Francis women's soccer (1-0-1) erased a two goal deficit to knock off Air Force (2-1-0) 3-2 in double overtime on Friday evening at Cadet Soccer Stadium.

Davis' Reaction
"I'm so proud of the team," head coach Ellie Davis said. "Even though we went down again 2-0 early, we played good soccer and were able to get ourselves back in the game especially with a goal right before half. It's encouraging that we have a lot of different players getting goals and assists. It took belief and a lot of energy from everyone to get the win."

Turning Point
Saint Francis junior midfielder Teresa Reid (Northeast, Md./Rising Sun) scored a goal off an assist from Dakota Graham (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville Area) with just over a minute to play in the first half to cut the Air Force lead to 2-1 at intermission.

Highlights
  • Jessell connected on a Graham corner kick and booted the ball into the top left corner of the goal to give the Red Flash the come from behind win in the second overtime session
  • SFU junior Emilee Barnett (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) made a nifty move in the box and found the back of the net off a free kick from redshirt junior Mariana Jaleca (Sebtubal, Portugal) in the 63rd minute
  • Redshirt senior goalkeeper Julia Hernan (Collegeville, Pa./The Hill School) kept Saint Francis in the match with six saves, including a crucial stop in the final minute of regulation

  • Air Force held a wide 24-11 advantage in shots
  • The Falcons had eight shots on goal compared to the Red Flash's five, two of which were by junior forward Camryn Tirado (Deptford, N.J./Deptford)
  • Hernan's six saves were the difference maker as AF recorded just two saves
