Women's volleyball finishes opening weekend 0-3

Youngstown, Ohio - Saint Francis sophomore Madi Tyus (Plano, TX/Bishop Lynch) recorded 35 kills in two games to land on the YSU All-Tournament Team but Saint Francis went 0-2 on the final day of the tournament, recording a 4-set loss to The Citadel and a three-set defeat to Bucknell.

Game One Recap (19-25, 25-23, 13-25, 18-25)

After dropping the opening set to The Citadel 19-25 despite leading 12-7, Saint Francis evened the match with a 25-23 win in set two. Tyus closed it out with her eighth klill of the set, her last three representing SFU's final three points. The Red Flash would drop the next two sets 13-25 and 18-25 to drop the match.

Key Stats
  • Tyus led the charge with 17 kills followed by sophomore Nicole Adams (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa East) with eight.
  • Adams and sophomore Keara McGraw (Austin, TX/James Bowie) each registered two aces.
  • Sophomore Kimmy Sweeney (Broadview Heights, OH/Beaumont School) dished out 34 of SFU's 35 assists.
  • McGraw led Saint Francis with 14 digs.
Game Two Recap (25-27, 22-25, 21-25)

Saint Francis couldn't get over the hump in game two, losing three tightly-contested sets to Bucknell. The first set was indicative of how the match would go. Saint Francis led 23-21 and pulled within set point at 24-23 after a Bucknell service error before the Bison closed on a 4-1 run to steal the set. Trailing 19-12 in the second set, the Red Flash roared all the way back to tie it at 22-22 after an Adams kill before Bucknell won the final three points.
Saint Francis fell behind in set three and couldn't catch up, losing 25-21.

Key Stats
  • Tyus bested her morning performance of 17 kills with a season-high 18 to finish the three games with 42 overall kills.
  • Adams was second on the team with nine kills followed by redshirt freshman Alexa Mamone's (Beaver, PA/Beaver Area) six.
  • Tyus added two aces and a team-high 12 digs.
