Women's soccer opens home action against Niagara

Loretto, Pa. - Saint Francis women's soccer team (1-1-1) opens home play this week with matches against Niagara on Thursday at 3 p.m. and Youngstown State on Sunday at 2 p.m.

Scouting Niagara
The Purple Eagles are 2-1-0 after picking up wins over UMass Lowell and Robert Morris, but falling to Akron. Niagara was picked sixth in the preseason MAAC Coaches' Poll. Sophomore forward Annie Ibey leads the Purple Eagles with seven points on three goals and an assist. Redshirt junior forward Kelsey Araujo has six points on two goals and two assists.

Series History
Niagara leads the all-time series history 9-3-0. In the most recent meeting, the Purple Eagles won 2-0 when the teams played at Niagara on Sept. 6, 2018.

Scouting Youngstown State
The Penguins are 1-3-0 after winning its season opener against Fort Wayne, but dropping three straight to St. Bonaventure, Marshall and Kentucky. Youngstown State was picked ninth in the Horizon Coaches' Poll. Freshman forward Marcella Sizer leads the Penguins with four points on two goals. Freshman forward Addie Roman has two points on a goal.

Series History
Saint Francis leads the all-time series history 7-2-2. In the most recent meeting, the Red Flash won 3-0 when the teams played at Youngstown State on Aug. 22, 2010.

Jessell's goal sends SFU past Air Force
Sophomore midfielder Rhiallie Jessell (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock) scored the game-winning goal in the 106th minute to give the Red Flash a 3-2 come from behind double-overtime win at Air Force. Jessell connected on Dakota Graham's (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville Area) corner kick and booted the ball into the top left corner of the goal as SFU scored three straight to stun the Falcons.

Hernan's goalkeeping prowess
Redshirt senior goalkeeper Julia Hernan (Collegeville, Pa./The Hill School) has made a name for herself with her shot stopping ability. Hernan has 17 saves through three matches, including six in SFU's win at Air Force. The program's all-time leader in career clean sheets with 23, Hernan has 65 starts under her belt.
