Red Flash set to host St. Francis Brooklyn and Wagner

Loretto, Pa. – Saint Francis women's basketball (4-10, 2-1 NEC) opens a four-game home stand by hosting St. Francis Brooklyn (5-8, 1-1 NEC) on Saturday, Jan. 11 at 4 p.m. and Wagner (4-9, 0-2 NEC) on Monday, Jan. 13 at 7 p.m.
 
Scouting St. Francis Brooklyn
The Terriers enter Saturday's game with the Red Flash coming off an 88-63 win over cross town rival LIU on Wednesday. St. Francis Brooklyn fell to Fairleigh Dickinson in its NEC opener 62-57 on Jan. 2. The Terriers rank second in the league in scoring offense, averaging 67.1 ppg. However, St. Francis Brooklyn has the second worst scoring defense, allowing 74.4 ppg. Senior Jade Johnson paces the team with 17.1 ppg and has recorded an NEC-best 37 three-pointers this season. Freshman Nevena Dimitrijevic and junior Ally Lassen are both averaging 14.5 ppg. Lassen leads the Terriers in rebounding with 6.6 boards per game, while Dimitrijevic tops the league in assists per contest (6.6).
 
Series History
The Red Flash lead the all-time series, 46-18. SFU is an astounding 27-6 when playing the Terriers inside DeGol Arena. SFU won the most recent meeting 86-64 on Feb. 25, 2019.
 
Scouting Wagner
The Seahawks have been struggling recently, dropping its past six contests. Wagner is coming off a 79-65 loss to Sacred Heart on Jan. 4. The Seahawks opened NEC play with a 78-63 defeat at Mount St. Mary's. The only other common opponent between the Red Flash and Wagner is Youngstown State. The Seahawks fell to the Penguins 64-42 on Nov. 23, while SFU dropped a 56-46 decision to Youngstown State on Dec. 7. Wagner is averaging 62.8 ppg, while allowing a league worst 75.6 ppg. Sophomore Emilija Krista Grava spearheads the offense with 15.7 ppg. Junior Khaleah Edwards is averaging 12.3 ppg and a team-high 5.8 rpg.
 
Series History
Saint Francis leads the all-time series, 48-22. The Red Flash are 26-9 when facing the Seahawks at DeGol Arena. SFU has won the past four contests over Wagner, including a 67-58 victory the last time the teams played on March 4, 2019.
 
Saturday Seedz 4 Needz Game
Saturday's game vs. St. Francis Brooklyn will be the Seedz 4 Needz game. Jakob Zernick will serve as the Red Flash's honorary captain for the game. Zernick is an eighth grade student at Central Cambria Middle School and started the non-profit foundation. Jakob was diagnosed in 2014 with Crohn's Disease. He founded Seedz 4 Needz as a way to give back to Children's Hospital Pittsburgh. He raises funds from selling vegetables he grows from seed in his garden, donations and fundraisers. He purchases toys, games, books, and blankets with the funds and delivers them to patients at the Children's Hospital every eight weeks when he receives his infusion treatments. He also provides care packages to kids and their families in the local area battling various illnesses. His goal is to inspire others through his actions to BECOME THAT SOMEONE.
