Red Flash Gets Swept By McKendree

Lebanon, Ill. – The Saint Francis men's volleyball team (1-3) fell to McKendree (3-2) on Saturday night, 3-0 (16-25, 17-25, 23-25).

Set One

·         For the second match in a row, SFU began the match trailing.

·         McKendree jumped out to an 8-3 lead.

·         The Bearcats controlled the pace for the most part in the set, holding a steady lead between 5-8.

·         Roman Szwabinsky (Columbus, Ohio/Westerville South) led the Red Flash with seven assists.

·         Blake Liprando (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley HS) led with three kills.

·         Final Score: McKendree 25, SFU 16

Set Two

·         The Red Flash stayed close, but midway through the set McKendree pulled out to a six-point lead.

·         McKendree held its lead and extended it to eight, eventually winning by that margin.

·         Blake Liprando (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley HS) added three more kills.

·         Szwabinsky added eight assists.

·         Final Score: McKendree 25, SFU 17

Set Three

·         With its back against the wall, SFU led for much of the set.

·         McKendree used a late run to tie the set at 22.

·         McKendree then scored three of the final four points to take the match.

·         Final Score: McKendree 25, SFU 23

Box Score Notes

·          Joshua Blair (Matterson. Illnois/Marian Catholic) led the match with nine kills and Blake Liprando (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley HS) added eight.

·         Roman Szwabinsky (Columbus, Ohio/Westerville South) finished with 23 assists.

·         Thomas Leahey (State College, Pa./State College Area HS) had six block assists.

·         Kills were 27-26 in favor of McKendree.

·         SFU had 24 assists compared to 27 for McKendree.

·         SFU had two less digs than McKendree (21-19).

Up next for SFU is another long break, waiting until next weekend to play 7 p.m. matches against King University and Lincoln Memorial on Friday and Saturday in Tennessee.
