Red Flash travel to Brooklyn for pair of games

Brooklyn, N.Y. – Saint Francis women's basketball (7-11, 5-2 NEC) hits the road for games at St. Francis Brooklyn (5-12, 1-5 NEC) on Saturday, Jan. 25 at 1 p.m. and LIU (3-14, 2-4 NEC) on Monday, Jan. 27 at 7 p.m.
 
Scouting St. Francis Brooklyn
The Terriers enter the weekend on a four-game losing streak that started when the Red Flash defeated them 82-72 on Jan. 11 at DeGol Arena. Since then, St. Francis Brooklyn has dropped three straight road contests at Robert Morris, Wagner and Mount St. Mary's. The Terriers are averaging 65.5 ppg, while allowing a league-worst 74.2 ppg. Senior Jade Johnson leads the team and is second in the NEC in scoring with 16.7 ppg, while junior Ally Lassen is averaging 15.1 ppg. Freshman Nevena Dimitrijevic is averaging 14.2 ppg, while dishing out a league-best 6.4 apg.
 
Series History
The Red Flash lead the all-time series, 47-18. SFU has won the past two meetings over the Terriers. However, St. Francis Brooklyn won 78-65 the last time the teams squared off at the Pope Center on Jan. 14, 2019.
 
Scouting LIU
The Sharks are coming off two narrow losses at Bryant and Wagner last week. LIU previous defeated Fairleigh Dickinson and CCSU in NEC play. The Sharks are averaging 60.4 ppg, while allowing 68.5 ppg. Sophomore Brandy Thomas paces the team in scoring and is second in rebounding with 13.4 ppg and 8.1 rpg. Junior Jeydah Johnson and sophomore Kiara Bell are each averaging 10.6 ppg, while Bell leads the way in boards with 8.4 rpg.
 
Series History
Saint Francis led the all-time series history with LIU Brooklyn, 50-18. This will be the first meeting with the newly restructured LIU Sharks.
 
Mastellone is money from long-range
Saint Francis junior Jenna Mastellone (New York City, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) lit it up from behind the arc in the Red Flash's last two games. Mastellone scored a career-high 14 points in both outings and was a perfect 4-of-4 from three-point range in SFU's victory over Sacred Heart. Facing Merrimack, the New York City, N.Y. native was 6-of-8 from the field, including 2-of-2 from behind the arc.
 
Red Flash sit in third in NEC standings
Saint Francis is currently in third place in the league with a 5-2 conference record. Robert Morris holds the top position with a 6-0 slate, while Mount St. Mary's is second with a 5-1 NEC record. The Red Flash won't face either team until meeting Mount St. Mary's on Feb. 15. SFU will then play both of the league leaders twice in four of the last five games of the regular season.
