Red Flash fall to Robert Morris in regular season finale

Moon Township, Pa. – Saint Francis women's basketball (11-18, 9-9 NEC) was unable to withstand a strong Robert Morris (22-7, 17-1 NEC) squad as the Red Flash fell to the Colonials 62-29 on Thursday at the UPMC Events Center. SFU will be the No. 4 seed in the NEC Tournament and host No. 5 seed Sacred Heart in the quarterfinals on Monday, March 9 at 7 p.m.

Phee Allen's (Newport News, VA/Woodside) three-pointer cut RMU's early lead to 4-3 with 6:49 to play in the first period. A Lili Benzel (Altoona, PA/Bishop Guilfoyle (Shippensburg)) trifecta had the Red Flash within 10-8 with 2:39 left. Saint Francis continued to fight as it added a Jenna Mastellone (New York City, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) three-pointer and a Jada Dapaa (Potomac, MD/Holy Child) layup with two seconds to go. Robert Morris led 17-13 at the end of the first stanza.

The Red Flash responded to a Colonials trey as Sam Miller's (Red Lion, PA/Dallastown) three-pointer made it 21-16 with 6:21 to play in the second period. Robert Morris closed the frame on a 9-2 run to hold a 30-18 halftime advantage.

The Colonials opened the third period strong with a 10-1 spurt to gain a 40-19 lead. MaKenzie Pollard's (Baltimore, MD/Western) drive to the basket for a layup made it 46-23 before an RMU layup at the buzzer put the hosts ahead 48-23 at the end of the third quarter.

Saint Francis continued to struggle offensively in the fourth period as Robert Morris extended the margin and handed the Red Flash the loss.
