Loretto, Pa. ā The Saint Francis men's basketball team (22-9) will make its third NEC Championship appearance in the last four years on Tuesday night when it plays at top-seeded Robert Morris at 7 p.m. on ESPN 2. The Red Flash are looking to get over the hump and win its first NEC Championship since 1990-91.
Ā
Scouting Robert Morris
Ā
After escaping the eighth-seeded St. Francis Brooklyn Terriers by a point in the NEC Quarterfinals, Robert Morris responded with a dominating 20-point win over LIU in the semifinals.
Ā
Robert Morris is led by its two Second Team All-NEC selections in senior guard Josh Williams and junior big man A.J. Bramah. Williams has knocked down 41.5% of his three-point tries and is second in the league with 3.1 made threes per game to average a team-best 13.5 points per contest. BramahĀ averages 13.4 ppg and 8.2 rpg, while shooting a league best 56.8% from the field.
Robert Morris shares the basketball and takes care of the basketball, leading the league in assists (16.3 apg) and assist/turnover ratio (+1.29). Saint Francis leads the NEC in 3PT FG% at 36.5%, while the Colonials are second at 36.2%.
Ā
Series History
Ā
Saint Francis saw its nine-game win streak over the Colonials come to an end in a 78-68 loss in Moon Township in the regular-season finale on Feb. 29. Robert Morris has been a thorn in SFU's side in the NEC Tournament, holding a 5-0 record over the Red Flash, but the programs haven't met in the NEC Tournament since the 2014-15 Semifinals. Saint Francis defeated Robert Morris handedly when the Colonials visited Loretto on Feb. 18, 86-71, behind a career-high 30 points from senior
Isaiah Blackmon (Charlotte, N.C./West Charlotte).
Ā
Looking to Get Over the Hump
Ā
This will be the third championship appearance for this senior class, the most in program history. In fact, no other class has appeared in more than one title game. The Red Flash lost the 2016-17 NEC Championship at Mount St. Mary's as a four-seed, despite holding an eight-point lead at the half. Saint Francis earned the top seed a season ago and hosted the second-seeded Fairleigh Dickinson Knights. Free throws plagued the Red Flash as they went 4-17 from the line as a team in an 85-76 loss. SFU is 1-2 all-time in NEC Championship games with its lone victory coming over Fairleigh Dickinson in 1991.

Sharing the Wealth
Ā
Back-to-back NEC Player of the Year winners
Keith Braxton (Glassboro, N.J./Delsea) (2018-19) and
Isaiah Blackmon (Charlotte, N.C./West Charlotte) (2019-20) have contributed as you'd expect through the first two games of the NEC Tournament with Braxton averaging 21.0 ppg, 6.5 rpg and 5.5 apg and Blackmon averaging 14.5 ppg and 5.5 rpg, but it has been the contributions of the rest of the team that has set Saint Francis apart. Senior Randall Gaskins Jr. has made 14 of his 18 field goal attempts and is averaging 17.0 ppg, and sophomore
Myles Thompson (Camden, N.J./Camden) is averaging 11.5 ppg. In its win over Sacred Heart on Saturday, the first eight buckets were scored by seven different players.
Ā
Red Hot Red Flash
Ā
Saint Francis enters Tuesday's Championship game winners of 10 of its last 11 games, the lone loss coming at Robert Morris a little over a week ago. The Red Flash have yet to trail in the NEC Tournament, winning both of its matchups wire-to-wire and outscoring its opponents by a combined 19.0 ppg. The Red Flash have shot 55.1% in the NEC Tournament, while holding its opponents to just 36.8% from the field.
