Women's Volleyball Falls to Sacred Heart, 3-1

» Saint Francis University women's volleyball fell to Sacred Heart University, 3-1 in a thrilling match to go 7-4 in Northeast Conference action.
» Madi Tyus (Plano, Texas/Bishop Lynch) was honored before the match for becoming the ninth player in Saint Francis history to earn 1,000 kills.
» Maggie Hogan (Northern Cambria, Pa./Northern Cambria) collected a double-double on the day with 17 kills and 15 digs in the match.

TURNING POINTS OF THE GAME
The extended fourth set was an all out thrilling match between the two teams. With the Red Flash down by three points, the score was 20-17. However, with kills from Tyus and Nicole Adams (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa East), Saint Francis was able to take the lead, to make the score 21-20. The Pioneers came back to tie the set, but combined kills from Tyus, Adams, Sophie Rice (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) and Hogan, the Red Flash were able to take the lead and extend the set to make the score 25-24. However, Sacred Heart was able to to come back and claim the fourth and final set, 27-25 to secure the victory. 

FLASH MOMENTS
Sacred Heart controlled the majority of the first set. However, a kill from Rice followed by three consecutive kills from Adams tied the set, 12-12. A kill from Hogan gave the Red Flash the lead 13-12 for the first time since early on in the first set. A service ace from Hogan gave Saint Francis its biggest lead of the second set making the score 17-15. The Pioneers were able to gain a four-point lead over the Red Flash to claim the first set, 25-21.
 
The Red Flash were able to claim the second set, 25-20 after going on a 4-0 run towards the end of the set to make the score 24-20. A kill from Adams, assisted by Kimmy Sweeney (Broadview Heights, Ohio/Beaumont School) clinched the second set for Saint Francis.
 
The grand performance from the Red Flash in the second set was not enough to stop the Pioneers from hustling back to to claim the third set, 25-20 to lead the match 2-1. However, the Loretto program could not be stopped that easily. The Red Flash went on a 4-0 run early on in the third set, but the Pioneers were able to come back and make the score, 15-14 to push through to secure the third set. 


FLASH NUGGETS
Adams, Hogan and Tyus each collected double-digit kills in the match.
 
While Maggie Means (Connellsville, Pa./ Connellsville Area) Sweeney and Hogan each collected double-digit digs on the day.


UP NEXT
The Red Flash will stay in Loretto for its last home game of the 2021 season on Saturday, Nov.5 at 5:00 p.m. against the Blue Devils of Central Connecticut State University.
