GAME NOTES VS. GEORGE WASHINGTON

need to know...

• The game between Saint Francis and George Washington will be the seventh meeting between the two teams dating back to the 1955-56 season. 
• The Colonials lead the all-time series 5-1 including a 2-1 mark in the nation's capital.
• This will be the first meeting against George Washington under head coach Rob Krimmel since the last meeting took place in 2005-06.
• The last Red Flash win in the series was an 80-78 decision during the 1979-80 campaign.
• While it will be the first meeting for Krimmel against the Colonials, it will be his 14th encounter with George Washington head coach Jamion Christian. The two tangled while Christian was the head coach of Northeast Conference rival Mount St. Mary's.

• Have Saint Francis open the season with a win for the second-straight season after defeating Pittsburgh last season.
• Head coach Rob Krimmel would earn a win against his 32nd different program in his coaching career.

• The Red Flash will make its 2021-22 DeGol Arena debut against Franciscan on Monday, November 15.
• It will be the 37th meeting against Franciscan dating back to the 1947-48 season. Saint Francis is 3-0 against its sister school under head coach Rob Krimmel.

the word on the colonials... George Washington is coming off a 5-12 overall season and 3-5 mark in the Atlantic 10. They had eight games cancelled due to COVID-19.
• The Colonials return five players including a pair of starters from last season.
• George Washington's roster includes 10 newcomers.
• James Bishop is the Colonials top leading scorer with 19.1 points per game, while Ricky Lindo, Jr. paced the team in rebounding (10.7 ppg.) and ranked second in scoring with 11.4 points per game.

last time we met... George Washington used a 50-33 second half to defeat Saint Francis 85-68 in Washington, D.C., on November 30, 2005. 
• Grant Surprenant paced the Red Flash with 26 points. Rashaan Benton added 16 points and J.R. Enright chipped in 12 points.
• Danilo Pinnock fueled the Colonials with 20 points. Maureece Rice added 16 points, Mike Hall posted  15 points, and Omar Williams had 13 points.

the dmv... Redshirt senior Tyler Stewart and sophomore Ronell Giles, Jr. are both from surrounding counties of Washington, D.C.
• Stewart, a native of Silver Spring, Md., in Montgomery County, has posted five of his 15 double-figure games against Maryland-Washington, D.C., teams. He is averaging 9.7 points per game in seven contests against teams in the DMV area.
• Giles, a native of Brandywine, Md., in Prince George's County, is averaging 12.5 points per game against the Mount.
• Giles and Stewart head home to face a team in Washington, D.C., for the first time in their career. The Red Flash will also travel to American on December 8 for a second game for the duo to play near their hometown.

season openers... Saint Francis opens up its 117th season on Tuesday at George Washington.
• The Red Flash will open up the season on the road for the 37th time since the 1950-51 season, and for the 15th time since the turn of the century.
• The squad is 36-35 in season openers since the 1950-51 campaign. Saint Francis is 32-3 at home and 4-32 on the road in that stretch.
• Saint Francis will open the season in the nation's capital for the third time, but the first time the squad will open the season at George Washington. The Loretto program lost at Georgetown in 1973-74 and at American in 2010-11
• In addition to playing at Georgetown and American, it will be the sixth time the team has opened up against a team from the nation's capital. Saint Francis defeated Howard at DeGol Arena to open up the 2002-03 and 2004-05, while it defeated American at home in 2009-10 and fell to the Eagles in the 2007-08 season opener.
• Last year, Saint Francis defeated Pittsburgh 80-70 to open the season in 2020-21.
• The win at Pittsburgh ended a 10-game losing streak to open a campaign.

• The squad returns 91 percent of its minutes, points and rebounds from last year.
• The Red Flash also returns its Top-6 scorers from 2020-21 with redshirt senior Ramiir Dixon-Conover leading the way with 15.5 points per game and senior Myles Thompson ranking second with 10.1 points per game. Redshirt senior Mark Flagg led the team on the boards with 6.0 rebounds per game.

first game of the year... Five Red Flash players have scored double figures in the season opener in their career.
• Redshirt senior Ramiir Dixon-Conover scored 21 points in the season opener against Pittsburgh last season. He is averaging 14.5 points per game in the first game of the year
• Senior Myles Thompson has scored double figures in all three of season openers he has played and is averaging 13.0 points per game in those contests. The senior had his best season opener against Buffalo with 16 points in his freshman year
• Redshirt senior Mark Flagg posted 11 points against Pittsburgh last season, and had 10 boards against Buffalo in 2018-19.
• Sophomores Maxwell Land (13 points) and Ronell Giles, Jr (10 points) both reached double figures in their collegiate debuts against Pittsburgh.

captain, my captain... Redshirt senior Ramiir Dixon-Conover, senior Myles Thompson and sophomore Luke Ruggery have been named team captains for the 2021-22 season.
• Dixon-Conover and Thompson were also team captains in 2020-21.

20-point club... Redshirt senior Ramiir Dixon-Conover leads the team with six games with at least 20 points in his career. Dixon-Conover registered four 20-point performances in 2020-21 and one in 2029-20.
• Redshirt seniors Mark Flagg and Tyler Stewart, and senior Myles Thompson both have one 20-point performance in their career. Flagg posted his 20-point game in 2018-19 while Stewart and Thompson both recorded their 20-point game in 2019-20.
• Sophomore Ronell Giles, Jr. posted the other 20-point game last year with his career-best 21 points in the first matchup against Bryant.

double vision... Senior Myles Thompson fuels the team with three career double-doubles. Redshirt senior Mark Flagg has two career double-doubles and sophomore Josh Cohen registered his first career double-double as a freshman in 2020-21.
• Cohen, Flagg and Thompson each have double-doubles that are points and rebounds. Redshirt senior Ramiir Dixon-Conover has two double-doubles in his career, one with points and rebounds and one that is with points and assists against Bryant last season.

boards up... Redshirt senior Mark Flagg has four double-digit rebound games in his career. 
• Senior Myles Thompson ranks second on the team with three 10+ rebound games, while sophomore Josh Cohen has one in his career.

within hop, skip and a jump of loretto... Saint Francis has three local players on the team. Senior A.J. Labriola (Altoona), junior Ben Seidel and redshirt sophomore Luke Ruggery (Duncansville) all hail from within 30 minutes of the Saint Francis campus.

coaches dream team... Head coach Rob Krimmel has assembled a coaching staff with strong ties to Saint Francis.
• Krimmel, a 2000 graduate of Saint Francis, was an Academic All-American.
• Assistant coach Eric Taylor, a 1998 graduate, was a three-time All-NEC selection, ranks 23rd in program history in points (1,287) and fifth in rebounding (967).
• Graduate assistants Ronnie Drinnon, an All-NEC first team selection as a senior and Jamaal King, who was named to the all-conference first team in his last two seasons, both played for Krimmel and also have etched their name into Saint Francis lore. King ranks 10th in program history in points (1,517 points) while Drinnon is 11th in rebounding (804). Drinnon graduated from Saint Francis in 2016 and King graduated in 2019.
• Assistant coach Luke McConnell, a 2012 Saint Francis graduate, played on the Red Flash football team as a student-athlete. McConnell is the son of former Saint Francis men's basketball head coach Tom McConnell (1992-99), while his cousin T.J. McConnell is in his seventh season in the NBA.
