STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The Saint Francis men's basketball team was held in check offensively Saturday night, as the Red Flash fell 67-52 to Wagner in the opener of a two-game NEC series.

Ronell Giles, Jr. scored 10 points each for Saint Francis, which was limited to a 26.8% mark from the field.

KEY MOMENTS
- The Red Flash offense had a 1-for-12 start from the field and nine points in the game's opening 12 minutes.
- Saint Francis pulled back within five early in the second half, but Wagner responded with a 10-2 run to extend the advantage back to double digits for the remainder of the contest.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Wagner jumped out to a 13-3 lead over the game's first six minutes.
- The Seahawks held the Red Flash to 3-for-25 from the field in the first half as SFU trailed 29-17 at the break.
- A 7-0 stretch out of the half with five points from Thompson cut the deficit to 29-24 with 17:24 remaining.
- The Seahawks responded with a 10-2 run to push the margin back to 13 with 13:37 to play.
- Wagner stretched the lead to as many as 21 points before Saint Francis closed the game on an 8-2 run.
STATS
- Giles was 6-for-6 at the line as the Red Flash went 21-for-28 as a team.
- Redshirt freshman Josh Cohen grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.
- Senior Mark Flagg collected seven rebounds and added two blocks to move within two of fourth in program history.
- Wagner held a 41-36 rebounding advantage.
- SFU committed nine turnovers to Wagner's 13.
GAME NOTES
- Saint Francis drops to 39-38 all-time against Wagner.
- Flagg's 103 career blocks are two back of Emmanuel Adekunle and Earl Brown for fourth in program history.
- Saturday's results from around the Northeast Conference eliminated the Red Flash from postseason contention. The NEC tournament has been limited to four teams this season.
