BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Saint Francis water polo team continued its 2021 season with a split in the second day of the Hoosier Invitational, as the Red Flash defeated Salem for the second time and fell to host Indiana to close out the weekend going 2-2.
In the second day of competition after two games,
Taylor Halbauer recorded six total goals, Emese Szcus found the back of the net four times and
Jenna Handali recorded three goals.
Saint Francis 12, Salem 7
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Salem made the first goal of the game but not before freshman
Jenna Handali got Saint Francis on the board to start a eight-goal run that kept the Tigers scoreless through almost three periods.
- The Tigers responded with two goals, one within the last 30 seconds of period three and one to kick off the fourth period.
-Both teams traded goals the entire final period but ultimately the Red Flash stayed on top despite two straight late fourth quarter Salem goals to take the 12-7 win and complete the Salem sweep on the weekend.
-Sophomore
Taylor Halbauer and Handali both recorded three goals each, totaling half of SFU's points.

- Halbauer and Handali scored a team-high three goals each while sophomore
Addison Williams added two.

Williams recorded two of the Red Flash's seven assists.

Abbie Carter drew two ejections and tallied two steals.
- The Red Flash found the back of the net 12 of 25 shot attempts (.480).

Rosalinda Rivera and sophomore
Haley Sanko both spent time in front of the net, with Rivera making a game-high 12 saves.
- Freshman
Katelyn Meagher made her first collegiate goal against the Tigers.
Indiana 17, Saint Francis 8
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Indiana struck first, taking a 2-0 lead early in the first period before freshman
Emese Szucs found the back of the net for SFU's first point.
- The Red Flash scored three and the Hoosier's went up seven making it 9-3 heading into halftime. Szucs recorded two of those three points while Halbauer notched the other.

Katelyn Meagher finds the back of the net for her second goal on the weekend and #2 in her collegiate career, middle of the third period to bring SFU within seven, 5-12 Indiana with 2:14 left.
-With 41 seconds left in regulation, sophomore
Camille Lyter finds the back of the net for SFU's final point of the game.
- SFU fights back, recording three goals in the fourth, but it wasn't enough and Indiana holds off the Red Flash to take the win, 17-8 for SFU's last matchup of the weekend.
STATS/NOTES

Halbauer and Szucs both collected three goals, and Lyter and Meagher each notched one for Saint Francis's eight goals out of 17 attempts (.471).

Heather Jacobson played a total 28:38 minutes in front of the goal with 7 saves on the day.

- Williams and Meagher each drew an ejection.
