Red Flash Places Seventh in Second NEC Event

NORTH BRUNSWICK, N.J. – The Red Flash bowling team placed seventh at the NEC #2 event over the weekend, accumulating a combined 2-7 record against Long Island, St. Francis Brooklyn, and No. 21 Sacred Heart.

After another weekend of individual competition, Saint Francis freshman Marissa Metcalfe now sits at eighth in the NEC, averaging 200.6 pins per game for a total of 1,003. Madalyn Harden is the second and final Red Flash bowler to sit in the top-25, coming in at 21st with a 191.33 average and 1,148 pins.

TEAM RESULTS

The Red Flash concluded the weekend by placing seventh in the tournament with a record of 2-7, going 0-3 against Long Island, 1-2 against St. Francis Brooklyn, and 1-2 against No. 21 Sacred Heart. Saint Francis now sits at 7-18 overall this season, with a 7-11 mark against NEC competition.

HOW IT HAPPENED

In the first day of the weekend against Long Island, the Red Flash fell 0-3 in tight battles. LIU took the traditional set, 975-932, the baker set, 931-908, and won the best-of-seven, 4-2 (1267-1223).

The second day placed the Red Flash against St. Francis Brooklyn, with SFU taking one of three from the Terriers. Brooklyn won the traditional set, 1006-816, but the Red Flash turned around and won the baker set in a close one, 861-848. In the best-of-seven, the Terriers swept the Red Flash, 4-0, totaling a final score of 931-811.

On Sunday, the Red Flash concluded the event against No. 21 Sacred Heart, pulling off one win out of three. Saint Francis opened the morning with a traditional set win, holding the Pioneers off by three, 964-961. Sacred Heart then answered with a baker set win, 1005-863, and a 4-1 best-of-seven win (1046-897).

UP NEXT

The Red Flash will return to action this weekend for two days of home events at Holiday Bowl. On Saturday, March 6, Duquesne will come to Altoona for a head-to-head with the Red Flash. On Sunday, Saint Francis will host the Red Flash Invitational, welcoming Mount Aloysius and Duquesne back for a one-day event.
