LORETTO, Pa. – Saint Francis Director of Athletics
James Downer has announced that Chris Cascino has been named women's golf interim head coach.
"We are extremely fortunate to be able to welcome Coach Cascino back to Saint Francis University," said Downer. "Chris is a championship-caliber leader and one that has brought tremendous amounts of success to our women's golf team previously. I'm thankful that he has agreed to lead our student-athletes during this interim period and I'm confident that he'll continue to grow and sustain the recent momentum we have seen with our women's golf program."
Cascino returns to Loretto following two previous stints as women's golf head coach from 2005-12 and 2017 where he led the Red Flash to two consecutive Northeast Conference Championships (2006 & 2007). He helped Saint Francis finish in the Top-3 of the conference postseason in each of his first four seasons in Loretto. Cascino had a player finish in the Top-10 at the Northeast Conference Women's Golf Championships 10 times in his nine seasons at the helm, including coaching Samantha Milosh to medalist honors in 2006 and 2007, while Ann Colligan was named the NEC Rookie of the Year in 2011 after finishing as the runner-up at the championships by two strokes.
Prior to Loretto, Cascino served as head golf coach to Conemaugh Valley School District (1998-02) in Johnstown, Pa., where he helped the team collect two West-Pac Championships. While in Johnstown, he led the team from a 2-16 record to only having two total losses in his last two years of coaching high school golf.
"I am very excited to be the interim head women's golf coach for the fall semester," said Cascino. "My goals are simple for the team, shoot lower scores and become more competitive. It's not going to be easy. I need to attack our weaknesses and find out how I can make all my players better. It's going to take a lot of hard work and repetition to fine-tune things. Along the way, my hope is to have a fun, safe and successful season."
Cascnio's achievements include 2000 Greater Johnstown Golf Champion, four-time winner of the City of Johnstown Golf Championship and 2017 Laurel Highland's Golf Coach of the year.
He also served as the president of the Greater Johnstown Golf Association and chairperson and organizer for the Saint Benedict Athletic Association's golf outing for eight years.
Cascino is a 1981 graduate of The University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown, with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Economics and a concentration in Business Management.
