LORETTO, PA – With 30 minutes remaining in the game, freshmen Joel Aschenbroich (Neuss, Germany/Berufsbildungszentrum/Neuss-Weingartstrabe) and Maximus Rigby (York, England/Joseph Roundtree) connected to give Saint Francis the 1-0 lead. For Rigby, it was his second goal of the season and Aschenbroich's second assist of the year.
That lone goal was enough for Saint Francis to move to 4-2 on the season, thanks to a brilliant performance from senior goaltender Jonas Dieseler (Duesseldorf, Germany/Lessing Berufskolleg).
For Dieseler, it was his second clean sheet of the season and had a new career high in saves with eight on the afternoon. Those included two saves in the final three minutes that kept the Red Flash's lead intact. Those included a diving save on a shot in the box from Bryan Akongo and a leaping save on a free kick from Gal Ben Dayan. Those eight saves are the most by a Saint Francis goalkeeper since October 1, 2014.
For Saint Francis, they now move their record against the Colonials to 10-5-1, and 7-2 when playing at Stokes Soccerplex.
The Red Flash return to Stokes Soccerplex on Sunday, September 26 to begin conference play when they take on Merrimack University.
