PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Saint Francis University dropped a 2-0 decision at Brown University in non-conference field hockey action on Friday.
Chloe South (Lusby, Md./Patuxent [La Salle]) made seven saves for the Red Flash on the afternoon. The junior, who registered a career-high 13 saves against James Madison on Sunday, has turned away 24 shots on the year.
Saint Francis had five shots on the afternoon thwarted by the Bears' netminder.
Claudia Ortiz (Madridf, Spain/Margaritas Salas) (16:25),
Dolores Zavaleta (San Juan, Argentina/Colegio Central Universitario) (18:30) and
Ella Maillie (Reading, Pa./Exeter Township) (19:14) each had chances turned away in the second quarter.
Brooke Benson scoring chance was halted by the Brown goalkeeper in the third quarter (40:25) and
Kate Viera (North Kingstown, R.I./North Kingstown) had the final chance on the cage stopped in the fourth quarter (55:17).
After a scoreless first half, Brown registered goals at 31:09 and 44:24 to earn the 2-0 win in its season opener.
The Red Flash return to action on Sunday at DeGol Field against Ball State University. Match time is 12 p.m. The game will be streamed on NEC Front Row. Ball State comes into the contest 0-3 after falling to Loch Haven 2-1 on Friday in the Keystone State.
