» Saint Francis University had 77 of its points come from the starting five in an 85-74 win against Sacred Heart University in men's basketball action on Sunday afternoon.
» Maxwell Land (Cincinnati, Ohio) led the quintet in double figures by matching his career high with 20 points.
» Myles Thompson (Camden, N.J.) tallied 17 points and a career-best six assists, while Josh Cohen (Lincroft, N.J.) posted 12 points and a career-best 12 rebounds for his fourth career double-double
» Ramiir Dixon-Conover (Newark, N.J.) stuffed the stat sheet with 15 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals, and Marlon Hargis (Mays Landing, N.J.) added 13 points and five rebounds in the winning effort.
One could argue that the during point of the game was with the Red Flash down 12 points with 8:56 left in the first half and they closed the half on 21-11 run to go into the locker room down two points was the turning point because the team did not trail again after tying it on the first possession of the second half. The Red Flash then broke the game open with the score tied at 56 thanks to a 16-2 run over the course of six minutes and 22 seconds to take a 72-58 lead with 5:54 left. Thompson posted five points and Dixon-Conover had a pair of baskets in the spurt. The Pioneers cut it to single digits twice the rest of the way, but could get no closer than eight points to seal Saint Francis' second win in a row.
FLASH QUOTES
"Great team win, certainly pleased with the individual statistics, but the rebounding numbers are the ones that I look at. Holding a team to four offensive rebounds and out rebounding them by 18 is certainly something we need to continue to build on."
- head coach Rob Krimmel on rebounding
"I went over and talked to the band after the game. I told them they won the game for us on Friday and the atmosphere they created with our cheerleaders, dance team, the student support and the community. We were down 12 and I liked the boost that they gave us. They gave us a great boost, because when you start to make that run as players you feed off of the energy of the crowd. I didn't realize how much I missed that, especially here at home. We have unbelievable fans. As we were coming up the stairs I was talking to Max and Josh, the Central Connecticut game was the first game they played a close basketball game in their career here at Saint Francis at DeGol Arena. Where the energy was needed to carry them over cause it's those one-point games and there's a lot of factors. Obviously, these guys played the game but the crowd plays a big part. Unbelievable atmosphere and the community support's been there, but to have the students, band, the cheerleaders back is awesome. Certainly, appreciate their efforts on a Sunday to come out here and support our guys."
- Krimmel on the atmosphere at DeGol Arena
"It's easy to walk into a locker room and obviously come to practice after a win. The momentum is important. Basketball is a game of momentum in the 40 minutes that you play and from game to game. It's certainly easier to get on that bus after winning a couple in a row. If we continue to build that chemistry and that togetherness and control the things that we can and get a little bit better in transition, hit the glass and take teams out of what they do really well. Put 40 minutes on the clock and we will make sure that we are the hardest playing and most together team."
- Krimmel on playing well
"That's what it feels like. We are all getting our mojo back. Getting two big wins at our home court. We've already had a chip on our shoulder all year and we're kind of continuing to find our groove and I think it's coming."
- said sophomore Maxwell Land on team getting confidence back
"I think I've gotten a lot more comfortable because all of the other guys got comfortable around me. It's hard to play with a bunch of guys that don't know each other. Coming in last year, I didn't know any of these guys and I think this year we have gotten really close. It's hard to make that happen, it doesn't just happen in one day. I think our leaders have done a great job of getting us in a groove and being comfortable with my teammates."
- redshirt Josh Cohen on personal development
"I feel like we are taking advantage of each day. No matter if it's a game or if it's practice. It's just going in each day and trying to get better and make that carry on into the game."
- senior Ramiir Dixon-Conover on how the team is playing
